Mock Cheese Crackers

Great crunchy snack.

Ingredients

Directions

  1. Cut 1 slice of American cheese into 16 pieces.
  2. Place around the outer edge of a piece of parchment paper. With a space in between each square.
  3. Place in microwave. Microwave on high for 50-60 seconds. Remove from microwave and let them cool.
  4. Place them in an airtight container. I put them in baggies, 16 to a bag - so I don't eat too many.

I used the Kraft Deluxe American, and it still bubbled up, however the taste is great. I sprinkle the entire slice with garlic powder or garlic and onion powder before cutting into slices. I like to do smaller pieces (more than 16) and they come out great. My microwave takes 70 seconds, and if you put any in the middle of the plate, they won't be done when the ones around the edges are! I've also tried with garlic and cumin for a taco taste!

Is it important to use processed american cheese, or might sharp cheddar work? Or any kind of "real" cheese? Definitely a must-try though!

WOW just got around to making these. They are wonderful. I used the Kraft singles because that is what I had but I have heard the Deluxe cheese is better. But there is nothing wrong with these. The kraft puffs up the deluxe dosent. Make sure to use Parchment paper on your microwave plate. I also used seasonings on mine. I made 2 bags with sea salt, 2 with garlic salt, 2 with cayenne pepper and 2 regular. I took Kaddy6001's advice and put them into individual snack bags so I can just grab a bag and go. Each bag holds the 16 crackers but all mine have 15 cause I had to try 1 out of each batch to make sure I liked the seasonings. lol. Thanks for sharing this recipe. JUST WONDERFUL.

I love them. I like to sprinkle a little red pepper powder on them before placing them in the microwave. Other ideas would be chives, parsley, garlic, etc.

You really must use the Deluxe American cheese for the best results. Excellent snack to take on the go or to parties where non-plan food will be available. Play around with your microwave time and be sure to use parchment paper.
