I am a retired Naval Officer living on a small ranch in Montana. My children are grown and married. We have some livestock and my husband works for local ranchers. I have chickens and sell eggs and vegetables. I do a lot of crafts and volunteer work. We live 11 miles outside of a town with a population of 126. We love Montana. Losing weight is a problem because I do all the baking at home-nearest grocery store is 45 miles, nearest Walmart is 90 miles. There is not a public gym to go work out at. I try to walk not just for weight but for my COPD. I use a pedometer and really enjoy looking at how much I walk each day. My will power is terrible. I am 57 years old and need to lose weight because of high cholesterol and COPD. I actually started at 230lbs when I joined FS over a year ago.I have not had the success I have wanted but have resolved that 2009 will be my year. I am changing many things in my life. I am cutting down on the volunteer work and plan on spending more time at home. This allows me to get my walks in. I am also an avid vegetable gardener but have not had the time to do the job I wanted for 2 years. I am really looking forward to my garden this spring. My husband gave me a Wii Fit for Christmas and I am having a good time doing the yoga, strength and aerobic exercises with it. My goals?

200 lbs
175 lbs
150 lbs

This will lower my cholesterol and help my COPD. I would love to be able to fit into a size 14/16 again.

Walking for Health
With the nice weather coming, I am interested in setting up a challenge that includes walking. A pedometer is not required because you can base it on minutes. I am basing the challenge on the Webwalking USA Walking Program that you can find at http://walking.about.com/cs/measure/a/webwalkingusa.htm run by Wendy Bumgardner. This challenge could also equate minutes of exercise to miles travelled. Take a look at her program. It looks like fun.

I SPENT MOST OF THE WEEK GROOMING MY DOG WITH TERRIBLE MATS. GOT THAT FINISHED. HEADING OUT TO THE GARDEN. I DIDN'T GET MUCH EXERCISE THIS PAST WEEK. I MUST GET RE-FOCUSED IF I AM GOING TO MEET MY GOAL. JUST RECEIVED THE SWEATER AND SKIRT I ORDERED FOR THE TRIP. LOOKS LOVELY ON. I NEED A VACATION.

Last nights meal probably put a pound back on but thats okay. Having fun is part of the mental health that keeps us going. I have posted my blueberry dessert in the kitchen It tastes a whole lot ritcher than the 282 calories per serving. And if made with fat free sour cream and splenda would be less calories. I can't participate in the stair challenge because there are no stairs around here that large. So I will try to do something else. 1/2 way there already. Wow. I have a long way to go but it is all in the trying.
