Welcome to the 50 LB. Weight Loss Challenge

Well I'm guessing your wondering what this is all about. This is a challenge for those who have 50 lbs. or more to lose and want support and motivation to do so from others of similar weight-loss goals. Regardless of what type of diet you are on - all are welcomed.

The true ultimate goal is for everyone that joins in on this journey to come out the other side of this adventure a little healthier and happier because they have embraced 'new' ways of eating and exercising and most of all being honest with themselves.

The challenge will be to lose 50 lbs. by December 31, 2008 (approximately 8 1/2 months away). Each week, we will post a new challenge on Fat Secret Forum Posts 'Diet Talk' for your viewing and response. More details will be forthcoming on the rules and response to weekly challenges.

THIS CHALLENGE DOES NOT PUSH A PARTICULAR DIET OR EXERCISE PROGRAM. FOLLOWING WHAT WORKS FOR YOU IN THE LONG TERM IS ALL THAT IS EXPECTED in participating in this challenge and getting on board is that you incorporate healthy weight goals and exercise.

Understandably, there is no one diet or exercise program that will work for everyone as we are all different and unique individuals and we are smart enough to find out what works for each of us on our own, or we can ask our fellow weight loss supporters for help in finding a what might work.

We hope you will find the weekly challenges fun and motivating. Your feedback is most welcomed. Check in on Sunday at 8 p.m. for the first week's challenge.

Good luck to all.

Karen & Jenn

Morning EveryoneExclamation Exclamation

Welcome to the 50lb Weight loss Challenge!!! I’m so excited about this new fun exciting adventure we’re about to begin. Like the other challenge, we’ll keep track of our weigh in every week by using this format:
Week 1: *weight* - minutes of exercise
Week 2: *current weight * (loss/gain) – minutes of exercise
Week 3: *current weight * (loss/gain) - minutes of exercise
Etc… That way we can all share how we’re doing and get support if we’re having trouble. And also get praise when we’re doing GOOD! Each week we’ll also have a “Food for thought” question, so we an share about our struggles and journey together.

This isn’t a short term challenge series, this is LONG term. We’re going to work on creating new, healthier habits together since we all got to the same place with somewhat the same habits. Again we’re going to give ourselves until December 31st to lose 50lbs, and I’m just so excited about that possibility! Me losing 50lbs would put me over the MOON! Thats only about a pound and a half a week! Totally doable!

Heres a refreshed list of participants! If you don't see yourself on there PLEASE PLEASE email me with your weight loss goals and I will be HAPPY to add you onto the list!

I'm excited. My birthday is December 15 (I'm going to be 44 this year). If I reach my goal by this birthday I am going to go somewhere tropical and hang out in a bikini for a week, for old time's sake (and because my body will be so smokin' that I can!). So...I'm so in. I look forward to the challenges, the friendships, the support, and mostly to getting rid of this weight that is not serving me well. Let's go!!!

Karen & Jenn on behalf of all of us, can I can thank you for organizing this. We all have a long way to go on this journey and it is easier when you have others to share it with. I also need to be accountable to someone other than me so having a challenge will help to keep me in line Smile
Thanks again & I will definitely be logging on to see what lies ahead for this week.

Amazing what setting a date and "peer pressure" does for your motivation!

I ready to start this show and I am counting on all ya' to keep the "peer pressure" on, and the support when needed! Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

I will also be pulling for everyone to keep to the the long road and that we are all treated to a lighter, thinner, leaner HOLIDAY even if we don't all make it to the bikinis and the beach! Nice fitting legging, Christmas sweater, and hot chocolate (SF, of course!) by the fire........

Week 1:
Come up with your own goal for how many minutes of cardio/exercise you are going to try to reach by the end of the week. Let us know HOW you did it at the end of the week. When you post your goal let us know whether you’re playing it safe, or pushing yourself. Hopefully we’re all pushing ourselves since this is a CHALLENGE! LOL Please post/email goal and starting point by 5pm tomorrow (Monday).

I just want to make clear because I received an email about what kind of exercise counted. So here’s the thing. I understand some people can’t do what other people are able to, and I get that FS counts deskwork, resting, sleeping... Obviously these are not exercise.

Definition of exercise: .bodily or mental exertion, esp. for the sake of training or improvement of health: Walking is good exercise.

Use your discretion and be fair to yourselves, if you cheat your only cheating yourself.

Food for thought!
Each week we’re going to have a question so we can all share part of ourselves with everyone. To make us hopefully feel like we’re NOT the only ones out there. This weeks question is:

What was the final straw that made you decide to get healthy?

On that note let the challenge begin!!!

Good Luck Everyone!!!

The final straw has been going on for the past 8 years. Laughing I lost a ton of weight after my son was born and then it just came back on gradually. I lose weight easily when I apply myself, I just like food way too much and my will power leaves something to be desired. I guess the final straw this time was I didn't want to buy any more fat clothes. I want to lose my gut and fit into a size 8 again.
