Hi, I'm new to Fatsecret and I already find it very helpful having you all as an added support system. I'm married, for 36 yrs, have 3 grown kids, 2 grand kids! I owned and operated a Flower shop for 7 yrs, until I was diagnosed with MS, and chose then to retire. Then I took up quilting, and scrap booking, both require a lot of sitting. We live in a tiny mountain community of 700 residents,and far too many barking dogs!! Our town has no stop lights, but has a little post office, and one very small high priced grocery store. The nearest I am to any large box stores or fitness gym's is 1 1/2 hrs. away. Since my resources are limited I pretty much have to find my own way to exercise. I have taken up walking or hiking. I've been on this "diet roller coaster" my entire life. None of the "rules" are new to me. I've tried almost everything, but something changed for me this time. I am finally going to take care of myself for me. I'm also feeling driven to get healthy since becoming a new Grandma. I want to be an active part in my grand kids lives. I have missed out on so much of my life already due to being overweight. SO... that's me in a nut shell! I'll be enjoying meeting you along the way, all of us together on our journey to better health and happiness... cya

I don't want to lose weight because then I'll be noticed and greeted by people.
I am terribly shy and about 15 yrs. ago I lost almost 80lbs. Boy, did I get noticed. It was so hard to deal with the attention. Woman that were my friends didn't call to do things or go to lunch
, they said bc they didn't want me to fall off my dieting. I felt kind of lonely. But it was the men that was hard to take. If it was when I was single it might have been fun, but I am happily married, and it was some of my friends husbands that made me mad. Men who when I was heavy never talked to me, but when I lost my weight, the doors got opened, a lot of un-necessary touching happened, like hugs hello, hand on the waist getting around me, nothing really inappropriate but very noticeable. I haven't talked to them since. I've gained my weight back over these years, and those same men are back to not giving me the time of day! People are weird! I don't know if this is what you were talking about but that my observation!!

I forgot to mention, What was an eye opener for me was that when I saw some of the astronomically high caloric dishes, I just saw foods that were going to make me feel horrible, and set me back. For the FIRST TIME, I valued myself and all the hard work I have put in to becoming healthy. Growth.

Family, food, and fifty five steps!
Well, I survived our family wedding get away, unscathed! It was great meeting up with dozens of extended family members, which is always a food driven experience! The vacation rental that I had selected, unknowingly had 55 very steep steps to get to the front door. (that definitely made you think twice whether or not you wanted to go back up 55 steps for another cookie!)
I packed my own food hoping I could infiltrate some good clean food into some of the expected high caloric, high salt, and always high sugar foods that would be served! Can I say loud enough "PROUD OF MYSELF", I did so good, I ate my things and only a few tiny 1" pcs. of some of the old favorites. I think between the 55 front door steps, and me mentally calculating some of the foods, I manuvered my way around the loaded calories without really going off the beam! if you know what I mean!

I weighed in...and... I didn't even gain an ounce!! Yeah! Had a fun exhausting week end and survived!!
