I am a 50 yr old mother of 2 adult children. I own a small business that takes up a lot of my time. I don't have a lot to loose but have gained 20 -25 pounds over the last 10 or so years and really want to get back to where I was in my 30's. I have always been an active person so I feel if I can just get my eating under control I can get close to my goal.

Adding Protein to Oatmeal
I started eating oatmeal when it started getting cold in November and was surprised to see that I started loosing weight. I had been stuck at the same weight for so long I couldn't believe it. Around Christmas I started snacking on nuts instead of granola. Even though the calories are higher I lost another pound! I'm nut sure if it was the oatmeal and nuts or because I started logging everything on this website that has been so helpful but it can't hurt to try it and see what happens. Gook Luck

PROGRAM WILL NOT ACCEPT NEW WEIGHT
I had an issue trying to log my weight in also. My weight dropped 1 pound and when I put it in, the screen said "your weight dropped 7lbs in one week are you sure you want to record this?" I told it yes and it put the right weight in so I'm not sure why it thought I dropped 7 lbs.

How do I figure out how many calories a day to lose weight?
Diets that are hard to follow usually won't help you keep the weight off. Try eating healthy foods in smaller portions. Logging in what you eat is so helpful. I was not aware of how many calories I was eating before I started doing that. Even if you have a bad day you can always try again the next day. Good Luck!

Calling all sugar addicts!
I also have an issue with sugar. I have tried to cut out sweets but that only made me want them more. So I decided to cut back which seems to work for me a little better. I have tried to substitute with splenda which helps but I have heard mixed things about using substitutes (heard they trick your body into wanting more sweet foods). Right now with a kitchen full of holiday yummies and a daughter that loves to bake I am having a problem avoiding the sweet items. Once the holidays are over I'm hoping to cut back again.
