Good things happen to good people. Today I got a raise/promotion at work that Ive been working towards for the last 5 months. Its not a huge raise, just enough to cover my recently added 401k contribution so it evens out. I started a 401k and got enough raise to cover what they take out of my check..I hadn't started it sooner bc I was afraid we couldn't afford it.. but this raise covers it perfect and ill break even.. Ill take home the same amount but now Im saving for my retirement. There is something sooo rewarding about this..Im 41 one and only have 20-25 years to save but its better than nothing. I can say I put 2 kids thru college and helped my mom before I started to save.. so at least my time wasnt wasted... this is a great ending to a not so great week... Feeling humble.. Tomorrow DH is taking me out to dinner to celebrate.

Isn't that nice. Good for you. If you don't have a pension plan, save as much as you can in your 401k. Always maximize your employers' match. It's never too late to start. Pretax deductions hurt a lot less. It'll make a huge difference in your retirement years.

Congrats! That is wonderful. So awesome of you to help your mom too. Kids are expensive and you should be proud of yourself for being able to put them through school. Lots of time left to save. Enjoy your dinner out tomorrow!

thanks HCB, im thinking seafood.. Jimmie, I feel redeemed.. the week started out horrible as you know.. I really needed this. Im putting aside the max my company matches and DH and I started a separate savings aside from our regular savings and hope that by the beginning of next year we can invest a little to catch up.AND I added a 2nd life ins policy aside from the one my company offers us.. a little extra for my kids to have when were gone... who would have thought retirement planning was soooo rewarding.. i feel good today.
