Bio update 9/05/16 - Labor Day!

I have been overweight most of my life. Now 62.5 yrs old. This weight loss has not been a rapid process. My highest weight was 280, which I hit twice, the last time about 5 years ago. I discovered I do much better physically and emotionally without gluten, so getting rid of that turned around the bad times for me (depression and weight gain). Eventually, I was diagnosed with Celiac after a genetic test. I joined FS at about 240 in April 16'. My success here has been a combination of the great community support, and the tracking of food and activity. I've been eating low carb for a long time, but the tools here allow me to do it more accountably. Also, many of the keto resources say that calories don't matter, but I do better when I also restrict calories. I'm aiming for about 1200 kcal/day. The high fat allows me to cut cravings and control my eating. I lost about 30 lbs in 4 months when I first joined here, but the losses are slower now. We always wish it could be faster, but I am so happy to be moving in the right direction! I have a lot more to lose, but I feel optimistic and increasingly healthy. Aiming for about 155.

I'm following a Low Carb/High Fat diet that works well for me; with some days of intermittent fasting.

I've set my current goal at 180. Then I'll set new smaller goals as I go, with my final goal, which I hope to reach by next summer.

Still doing HFLC/keto. When I stick to it, it works.

Do you find it hard to sleep on fasting days?
I'm finding it hard to sleep while losing weight on Keto. I'm not sure whether it's due to fasting periods, ketones in the bloodstream or the MCT oil. Or all three. I'm lucky to get 6 hours and often it's only 3-4. Weight loss has been slow too. The low sleep hours causes a rise in Cortisol, which is not good.

How many calories are in 4 0z. of grilled or roasted pork?
Roasted pork varies a lot depending on how much of the fat you are eating. If you're doing LCHF, then eat the fat and count the higher amount. If you're working a low fat diet, then don't eat the fat and count the lower amount for the lean meat.

Too much flavor???
And after a day of fasting and drinking only unsweetened drinks, a dinner meal of vegetables and meat tastes absolutely sweet and delicious. Flavors are enhanced when you give up sugar, and sweetened stuff tastes gross!
