"If it is important to you, you will find a way. If not, you will find an excuse."

I am a 67 year old woman with the goal of reducing my weight for my health and to meet my fitness goals of increasing muscle and losing body fat.

I love being active and want functional fitness - to be able to do everything I want such as kayaking, bicycling and weight lifting. I focus on strength training with weights, and some cardio with the rowing machine and the elliptical when kayaking or bicycling ends.

Up until I was about 45 years old, I exercised regularly and watched all my food choices. In fact, when I was 40 years old, I was in the best condition. This was an accomplishment since I had been an overweight kid, and battled weight off and on for most of my adult life - especially with thyroid disease.

How low is the LC in the LCHF Diet?
I agree with Phil - "The Obesity Code" is a great book. Also look at:

Low Carb Diets - Do they work for everyone?
Diablo - did you read my first post here? I agree with the first law of thermodynamics - I just disagree about the quality of those calories. What do you care whether I eat those calories without grains or dairy because they do not agree with me? Why be mean and sarcastic? Go read my journal for today...

Low Carb Diets - Do they work for everyone?
Yes - that may be true SSS, but I do not give advice to others on this site about what they should or should not do - and it seems you do.

Low Carb Diets - Do they work for everyone?
So sorry soonsoonsoon - aren't you back now because you gained back most of your weight lost last time? Not trying to be rude here but maybe LCHF folks are on to something you do not understand.

Low Carb Diets - Do they work for everyone?
Oh, yay, the LCHF/Keto is being maligned once again. Calorie deficit is true, but quality of those calories matters for many of us. I cannot eat grains or dairy and maintain or lose bodyfat, and even too much protein for me gets stored. I am 62 years old - my metabolism is not the same as a man, a younger person or super bodybuilder. WHY do they insist they are correct? I lift weights and do HIIT four or five days a week. I am well read and done research. Jadsl is correct - carbohydrates are not required for health. Protein and essential fatty acids are necessary.
