redgirl1974's Journal, 15 April 2015

I want to share something here tonite and it has nothing to do with FS but in a way it does. I took my son to the Navy recruiter today. He has his heart set on enlisting once he graduates. And some of you may know, I have been dieting and working out with my 17 yr old son since the new year. He has always been a husky boy and big eater and sadly, he is/was overweight. We started this journey together this new year, not just for me bc I wanted to lose weight but for him to bc i knew he wanted to enlist. Ive lost about 30 lbs and he has lost around 21 lbs. Anyway today we found out he needs to drop one size.. he is 38 and needs to be 36 to enlist BUT that is still ok bc he was size 40 a few months ago. Anyway, the reason Im sharing is bc one, I am super proud of my son for all his hard work and his motivation and real honest need to be part of something and to serve his country but also bc today has given me a new reason to work harder at this.I announce here to you all of you my fat secret friends, bc i consider you all my friends, that I Andee, am committed to working hard at losing weight, eating right, and working out and being a good source of support for my son!! GO Michael !! I love you... and we can do this together !

My ex was a navy aviation tech and the workout stories he told me from boot camp made me shutter. Trust me, if you get him down one size, the navy will get him the rest of the way!

Your entry is so full of love! My youngest son struggled with weight issues from mid-high school and for quite a few years after. It took a few years, but healthy attitude and lifestyle, then really working out has paid off. He looks and feels so good now. Good luck to you and your son! You deserve to be proud!

Wishing you and Michael both continued success. I know that Michael will get down and Mom, you are living proof that it can be done. Our youngest daughter is in the Navy---she was a tiny little thing and had to build up weight and muscle but she was determined and did it! I will be watching and praying for your success.

Andee, congrats to you & your son! I'm happy & proud for you both. Awesome story! You keep on building a better you; while setting the example for Michael to go after his goals with tenacity. Teach him that something being hard to do, doesn't mean it can't be done. I know kids have a tenancy to close their ears when a parent offers advice, but the example you set will never escape his memory. Let that motivate you to fulfill your oath; as your example will be the inner voice that guides him someday. Your example, will be his character. Your example will be his fortitude. And by the sound of it, you have already done a pretty good job on that front. Again, congratulations to you both!

He is going to do it! I was in the Army when I was 17. The biggest thing I can suggest is to run run run. Sing while you run. I learned a big lesson when I was in the Reserves, prior to be Active Duty. When everyone runs and sings together, you get in a cadence and it takes your mind off of everything. Punishment was to run without singing and we lost over half in the run when that happened. I sang the cadence in my head because I was stubborn--LOL. Another exercise that will help him is mountain climber's. I know he will do it. Thank you to your son for wanting to serve for our Country and Thank YOU for sharing him with us.
