Who am I...good question! In short, I am a very "young" 68 yr. old woman who has been blessed with a life of adventure. My current adventure finds me living in West Texas. My husband and I run a agricultural spray business in a small rural community. He flies and I do the booking, etc.

Before West Texas, we lived aboard a beautiful big boat in Galveston, TX for six years...that ended with Hurricane Ike decided to take her for a cruise to destruction. For now, we are land-based and dreaming of our next lifestyle change.

In my former life I lived in the Chicago area and was a teacher/principal for 35 years. We have a daughter who is married and lives in Chicago with her hubby, their precious daughter and one cat. Our youngest daughter attends University of Notre Dame and is involved with Navy ROTC.

Weight has always been an issue for me...however, it has never prevented me from doing things that I wanted to do...lately, however, I have begun to think that maybe I need to think more about my health in order to extend my opportunities for more adventures. Losing weight seems to be the key so here I am working the Atkins approach and feeling healthier every day.

My goal is 160 pounds...haven't weighed that weight since I was 19. However, I have been close since the age of 19 and realize that it is attainable. But for today, I am content to see numbers on the scale continue to be lower. I didn't gain all this weight overnight and know that it is not going to come off in one big drop...wouldn't it be nice, however!

I live the thought, "this is a day the Lord has made, rejoice and be glad with it." I know that if I stay the course that I will see the results I want.

Atkins and foot/leg cramps
Noticed that someone else is recommending pickle juice...I swear by it and people poo-pooed me until they saw the entire Alabama football team eating large dill pickles on the sideline...why?...to prevent and alleviate any leg cramping. Dill pickle juice is the best...it just takes a couple of swigs and you will start to feel the cramps fade away almost instantly. Been doing this for about ten years. Of course, when you have a royal charlie horse...getting to the fridge is the worst part. Give it a try.

Paleo vs Atkins
Took the liberty of randomly looking at your diet calendar and I noticed that you are not eating enough veggies. There are days when you have almost no fiber but lots of fat and protein in your meals. I know that the lack of veggies will stall one out...as I am the perfect example. My focus for today is eat more veggies. You need to get your veggies up to at least 15 grams and I like to see my fiber go to 25 grams if possible. I was at a stall for nearly two months and thought that I was following the plan UNTIL someone gently encouraged me to eat my veggies and when I did...3 pounds dropped immediately and I am not looking at the same old 5 pounds any longer. And I know now, if I stall even for a few days, I need to look at the veggies part of my eating. Hope this helps!

Hungry For Change
Heather, I ordered a juicer and picked up the book that you suggested. I am planning to show the video to my daughter while she is here in hopes that she will rethink what she eats. I am so thrilled that so many are watching the video and realizing that food manufacturers are not our friends but have a completely different agenda...profits at all costs. Wish there was a way to get this out to more people. It needs to be shown in schools where kids are just starting to learn about nutrition and there isn't a health club in this country that shouldn't be showing it to its clients. I am thrilled that Paula will be showing this to her Tuesday night group. Knowledge empowers us!

Hungry For Change
Glad you ladies enjoyed the film....I found it very insightful and while appalled a bit about what food manufacturers do to our food, I wasn't surprised as it always boils down to the MONEY. I, too, have ordered this to share with my family and friends.

Heather, I knew that this would be right up your alley. And Paula, I felt that this was something you might want to share with your Tuesday night class...I also knew that this would fire you up as well. That is why I asked you to specifically view it. I am hoping that others will take the time to watch it.

It definitely will impact what you put in your mouth. I will be reading labels much more carefully looking for MSG and aspartame. While I may not know all the MSG aliases I will know not to ingest MSG if it is on the label.

Thank you for watching.
