I have always been reasonably fit, but I turned 35 and just started packing the pounds on. Lots of new life circumstances all at once. So generally, I was not living healthy.

I am here to lose weight, but also to start living a healthy lifestyle.

Determining goal weight
I'm hoping you all can help. I initially started this weight loss journey with a goal weight of 125 pounds. I was 125 from ages 15 to 35 (I'm 5'7" ). I was always pretty comfortable there in terms of how I felt. I was however various levels of "thin" to downright "scrawny", depending on who you asked.

BUT...I'm 40 now and in the past 5 years I've gained up to about 160. I'm down now to 142 and a while back I adjusted my goal weight to 130. In all fairness, I was REALLY thin at 125.

But as I'm losing, I'm feeling more and more comfortable and now I'm starting to wonder which of these situations is going on...

A) I'm realizing that I really was way too thin my whole life and I should raise my goal weight up to 135. Or...

B) I'm lazy and if I raise my goal weight up to 135, I can be done sooner.

Thoughts...? Razz

How do you know what is the proper goal weight for your body type?

SylvesterKing - LOL, I've never heard of a squatty potty, but I was going to recommend my even cheaper method of putting my feet up on the bathroom trash can or laundry basket! Smile

dianemillervuoso - I only go about once a week (if I'm lucky). Fiber does nothing for me, but water certainly helps.

VERY slow weight loss!
I'm not going to disagree with Brandon, as Atkins is the only "diet" I've ever tried and is pretty much the way I ate my whole life until I got remarried, started making carb heavy meals for my husband, and packed on 30 pounds. I think there's probably some truth in what he's saying, but for me, eating fat and protein leaves me feeling full...much more so than eating high carbs. There's a reason people joke about being hungry two hours after eating chinese! For example, I eat a fried egg and two pieces of bacon every morning for breakfast and that easily satisfies me until lunch. And I used to eat 2 big bowls of cereal and have a pretty heafty snack about 10am every day.

I am easily between 10 and 20 carbs a day. But I eat lots of protein.
