I don't diet, I eat to achive my goals.

My name is Brent. I am 41 years old and live in central Texas. My past two yearly checkups with my doctor revealed fasting blood glucose levels slightly above 120. Pre-diabetes may be bad but full blown diabetes is way worse. My doctor told me to cut the carbs and sugar and I didn’t hesitate to listen. So here I am, as of September 20th 2013, living a low carb lifestyle and tracking everything I eat here on fatsecret.

Before I eat something I ask myself a simple question. "Am I about to eat nutritious real food, or is this something that is "food-like" which I just want to eat because it tastes good?"

If I can’t honestly answer the question with "nutritious real food", then I don’t eat it! So much of what we put in our bodies these days is not even real food. These processed "food-like" substances are simply short term enjoyment which our mouths love, but our health ends up paying the price for.

As of October 5th I am completely off my prescriptions of prilosec, metoprolol and simvastatin. My blood sugar is now under control. It’s usually under 100 when fasting now a days.

Previous Diet: Ketogenic low carb diet. 7 month duration, 46 pounds lost.

Current Diet: Modified Primal Diet
• Clean eating, minimal processed foods
• Reintroduce fruits, some grains and beans
• Minimal wheat products
• Minimal corn and potato products
• Minimal sugar
• Minimize high GI foods

• Fat loss to 10% body fat (or less)
• Maintain muscle mass
• Gain strength
• Balanced nutrition
• Optimum health (blood pressure, lab results)
• Blood sugar control
• Defeat insulin resistance

• 50g net carbs/day average per month
• 140-150g protein/day
• Fat to reach my caloric goals for the day

In the Android app is possible to access recipes in My Cookbook?
Mine was kinda fixed with this last update. My app no longer crashes when I click on a recipe item in my food list. However, I still can’t add items from the cookbook to my food list without visiting the website. I am running Android Kit Kat on a Samsung Note 3.

I'm going to be hungry
I'll fourth the higher fat diet. I DO s**t rainbows a lot of the time because I feel so much better every day than I did 50 pounds ago. One thing I'd like to mention on consuming more fat, that should be mentioned, is that you should not combine high fat and high carbs. This is what causes health problems. If you raise the fat you need to lower the carbs and as HtownMedicineWoman said, keep the protein moderate. Olive oil, avocados, cheese and heavy whipping cream are great sources of fat that will keep you going for hours. Also check into coconut oil, it is an excellent source of fat energy. Good luck!!

Although my loss was not as significant as some, I’ve lost 43 pounds so far. I started the LCHF diet because my dr told me I had to make a change or I would soon become full blown diabetic. My fasting glucose was slightly over 120 on my last two yearly checkups. Since then I’ve been monitoring my glucose levels and now my fasting levels are almost always under 100 and never go over 120 during any time of the day unless I cheat. The lowering of my glucose levels took me about 4 months of dedication to the diet which has now become a lifestyle. Three months into the diet I was able to stop taking my blood pressure, cholesterol and acid reflux prescriptions. It can be done with determination and persistence. I wish you the best of luck!
