I don't diet, I eat to achive my goals.
My name is Brent. I am 41 years old and live in central Texas. My past two yearly checkups with my doctor revealed fasting blood glucose levels slightly above 120. Pre-diabetes may be bad but full blown diabetes is way worse. My doctor told me to cut the carbs and sugar and I didn’t hesitate to listen. So here I am, as of September 20th 2013, living a low carb lifestyle and tracking everything I eat here on fatsecret.
Before I eat something I ask myself a simple question. "Am I about to eat nutritious real food, or is this something that is "food-like" which I just want to eat because it tastes good?"
If I can’t honestly answer the question with "nutritious real food", then I don’t eat it! So much of what we put in our bodies these days is not even real food. These processed "food-like" substances are simply short term enjoyment which our mouths love, but our health ends up paying the price for.
As of October 5th I am completely off my prescriptions of prilosec, metoprolol and simvastatin. My blood sugar is now under control. It’s usually under 100 when fasting now a days.
Previous Diet: Ketogenic low carb diet. 7 month duration, 46 pounds lost.
Current Diet: Modified Primal Diet
• Clean eating, minimal processed foods
• Reintroduce fruits, some grains and beans
• Minimal wheat products
• Minimal corn and potato products
• Minimal sugar
• Minimize high GI foods
• Fat loss to 10% body fat (or less)
• Maintain muscle mass
• Gain strength
• Balanced nutrition
• Optimum health (blood pressure, lab results)
• Blood sugar control
• Defeat insulin resistance
• 50g net carbs/day average per month
• 140-150g protein/day
• Fat to reach my caloric goals for the day
