42 years old. Husband and father of 3 boys. Type II diabetic.

Lost almost 80 lbs about 10 years ago and got into the best shape of my life. Began a new career that resulted in a lot less activity and time - meaning sedentary lifestyle and lots of quick food (read: drive thru fast food). Gained all the weight back and my blood sugar is not controlled at all.

Sick and tired of feeling sick and tired and of seeing myself in pictures and videos and barely recognizing who I am. Ready to get back to discipline and get healthy again. Looking to lose 75 lbs. total and control blood sugar. Short term goals are 27 lbs. (10% body weight) and A1C 6 or lower. Let's do it.

I find counting carbs MUCH easier and more satisfying than counting calories.

And who is suggesting restricting anything totally? Atkins surely doesn't advocate that.

/shrug.

Weight Watchers is not a bad plan, by any means. That said, any diet that focuses on calorie restriction typically results in hunger. It is hunger, more than anything else, that leads to diet failure.

For some, Weight Watchers is the ticket. For me, as a diabetic, a low calorie, high carbohydrate diet is much like putting a person with heart disease on a diet high in trans fat.

What is healhty for one may be dangerous for another.

Body Fat Estimator
Most of my research into the matter has shown that the Navy method returns results with a roughly 1-2% margin of error versus displacement. I'd say that's a pretty solid estimation.

hcg and Atkins?
HCG seems dangerous and extreme to me. I can see no good reason to artificially alter your hormonal balance unless it is medically necessary.

Help with Atkins-newbie
More fat than protein. Say 65% fat, 10-15% carbs, 25ish % protein.

Give or take. Wink
