!!!! Rant time!!!! Unexpected food day tomorrow at work, due to meeting schedule changes. So it was decided after the early shift left yesterday that it will be finger foods. Get there and there is an email telling me I'm bringing 3 big bags of chips!!! Now this is all voluntary participation, NO!NO!NO!,,, sent an email back to the person who sent it, she works late, saying no I was not buying chips, I would gladly bring something else. Not something unhealthy and processed. I was nice -- explained that I do not eat them and refuse to buy them for others.

Later get a pop up message from my immediate boss telling me, not asking, I was bringing velveeta for rotel nachos. Tell her I'm not bringing anything I cannot eat, I'm fighting bronchitis with asthma issues and all those chemicals in that non-cheese was not something I could eat; volunteered real muenster cheese instead ( I make them from real cheese and have a big brick of it in my frig). She huffed at that idea. This woman knows I do not eat processed foods.

Smiles, I'm taking with no one's approval. Homemade hummus, homemade baba ganoush, some north African cassava bread and some sesame water crackers (no preservatives or additives) from the nearby international store, maybe some cauliflower. Everything is already made, just have to package it up to haul to work, unless I cut up some cauliflower.

Irritates the heck out of me when someone tells me I have to bring junk food to something. And not feeling good I am a bit more irritable than usual.;)) I'll take a lunch for me along as those "finger food" lunches rarely have anything healthy.

hummus is soo easy. made it in my bullet. Sesame seeds (I like them toasted) some sesame oil, some cooked garbanzos, a roasted garlic clove, a bit of cumin, splash of lemon or lime juice and salt and pepper. Blend them all together until they are smooth. You can use raw garlic but I much prefer roasted.

Draglist, of course!!! laughing.... most love the little grease pit café in our building, the front elevator always smells like really old fry grease. Obviously not filtered correctly or changed frequently ( sorry restaurant background). I won't eat there, I can't stand the way it smells...I use the back elevators...

Good god they still make velveeta cheese 'food'! Good for you I wouldn't have made or brought that garbage either. Try to rest when you can.

Whole: you have inadvertently exercised a valuable act of food education on your colleagues. You have also ended up spending a whole lot more money, I am sure, in the process, but I am like you. I like to show people options, and I want to be able to eat it too. Needless to say your options surely were fully enjoyed by everyone...Little by little people will learn what real food is...again.

No education, I learned that a long time ago. Except for the newbies on the team they all know my stand on no junk food and eating homemade. 3 big bags of chips for 11 people??? Didn't spend more and any leftovers are ones I can use. Have you looked at the price of velveeta lately? They have piles of it in the store and rotel tomatoes any time there are sports events. Sorry, I now make nachos with real cheese. The crackers will keep, the cassava bread as well, it is a dry crunchy flat bread and is terrific to have around for a bit of crunch. I usually have some since I'm on maint and discovered it a couple months ago in an African market, keeps forever, says best used by dec. 31, 2015!! Did not have as much baba ganoush as I thought left so defrosted a pkg of frozen cream cheese and made a dip with sweet and spicy pickled jalopenos .

The hell with them! LOL - bring whatever you want - apparently they are trying to have chips and cheese...how dare you suggest actual cheese!

celery is a finger food.8).. If they can't take your food restrictions into account, this is an HR issue. Keep your emails and other communications.

I was shocked anyone would tell you to bring any food! Never in my working life have I heard such a thing until now. The closest we did was to have a voluntary list that different ones wrote what they could bring to a potluck type of function so there wouldn't be two of anything. That was a party for a retiring person. A company meeting spread was paid for by the company and brought by the manager. Good for you standing up for yourself and sticking to it! Your food sounds so good!

Sounds too delicious to waste on numb skulls. Hope you got to take some of home to nourish yourself!

That just hit me wrong yesterday morning. We do food days about once a month, usually following a theme, ie: soup, Mexican etc. I know except for one person on our team they are geared toward junk food and I usually have a back-up meal along. NP> Normally not dictated as to what we bring strictly volunteer. I bring healthy--usually veggies, a salad, fruit, homemade bread or rolls everyone knows that, except a couple newbies, email was from a relative newbie. My immediate boss thinks everyone follows what she likes, after 5 years she knows I don't follow her on that, then she tells me to bring velveeta and shuns real cheese!!!!
