By the way, I totally knew not to buy potato chips but I bought them anyway. It’s my biggest weakness.

Did you know— the salted flavorings on chips are engineered, created, manufactured to last less than 10 seconds then it disappears. They are created to keep you wanting more. Are you going to CHOOSE to be led by the nose ring down a path you don’t particularly want to follow.
Did you know— salt is believed to be the source of all addictions- the original addiction. It is an addictive substance just like alcohol, drugs, cocaine, meth. Back in the day of the Romans, Greeks ect salt was used as a method of payment (thus the word SALary) and access to salt was given and withdrawn as a means of controlling workers and slaves.

I see it a need for essential raw salt. Better to just put a pinch of salt on the tongue, and wash it down with water. The crunch is also a thing, and at this point pork rinds do that for me. Yet, another thing. A lot of recent research expose a severe toxic effect from seed oils, which can be a factor with many fried foods. The toxins are classified as far more severe than Mercury. Your 'self' spoke well today.

Completely dropping something is the best but if you find you have issues where depriving yourself is going to make you quit moving forward in your eating plan then consider giving a friend funds to buy you a bag of small chips or gets a large bag and is willing to divide it into sandwich bags (weighing them into a specific oz would be marvelous if they had a scale or you could get one for them) that they keep at their house then give you one every other day or three days in between till you can find the self control to not be tempted to overdo it when you do it. Find a alternative that fits your eating plan too. I love dried seaweed. So what makes potatoe chips the go to item for you ... the texture, crunch, salt/flavor? See if there is something that fills that need but has less of a impact.

I am a potatoe lover myself, haven't had chips in a long time! They do make veggie chips maybe next time get a try a different kind of crunch for the cravings?

Obesity is as much psychological as it is physical, you have to realize that the want to eat and the need to eat are two entirely different things. Eat only when you need to and you'll do better, merely wanting to eat and craving food are not insurmountable issues.

Much easier not to eat junk food when it's not in the house. Very, very tough to do with kids around though.... :( Veggie chips are a weak option, because most of them are fried and high fat as well. Baby carrots help me to snack on, because they are as easy to mindlessly munch on as chips......

Self control is key— you can eat anything you want once you learn to eat a normal serving, enjoy it and stop. Nothing needs to be off limits if you are not eating it meal after meal and day after day.. Life is not about deprivation. Those who have medical issue may have a different set of circumstances

And in regards to your kids, now might be a good time to begin to wean your kids off of so much junk food so they don’t have to take this same weight loss/diabetes journey.

Agree with Kenna. Self control is key to any diet. Anything done to excess, including drinking water, can be detrimental to your health.

Don't beat up on yourself; just change the behavior. The addiction is real. Treat it as such. I don't know any alcoholics who can just "cut down" to a reasonable amount of drinks, unless the reasonable amount is zero. For me, it is sweets. The reasonable of sugar for me is absolutely zero. We're here for you if you need to rant further.

Great suggestion re kids / snacks. I grew up without chips, pizza, sodas - but when exposed to them as a college student, I dived in and got addicted. My Mom didn't buy the snacks for us, but never talked about how bad they were nutritionally.

I was struggling with the same problem this week. I wanted gold fish crackers really bad and I did the next worse thing. I got a thin cheese crackers box instead thinking that I'd try to be healthier. I ate the whole thing. It did not matter in the end that I didn't even buy the gold fish. I should not have bought any kind of cheese crackers at all. It'shard, and all we can do is move on and be better the next time. You can do it!
