I'm a 50 year old man, 6'2" tall. I joined FatSecret in October, weighing in at 269 lbs. I wanted to get to 225 pounds and had successfully done Weight Watcher before; at that time also losing 50 pounds in 5 months. If you're familiar with Weight Watchers, it's essentially caloric restriction. They call it "points" but at the end of the day, you're still counting calories. I used the fatsecret app on my phone to keep track of my calories. Found it to be the best app on the market for looking up food calories, despite other flaws it has (RDI calculation is WAY TOO HIGH, for one).

I decided to limit my calorie consumption to 1200 calories, working my way down from 1800 then 1500 to 1200. I tried going below that but found I was too hungry. I also decided to walk at least 7000 steps a day, weather permitting. With these two contraints, I was able to lose, at times, upto 4 pounds a week. I lost 50 pounds in 4 months, ending the diet at 217 pounds. I though about going lower, but everyone around me said I was looking too thin for my size and frame.

Since reaching my goal, I've raised my calorie count back to 1500 and am monitoring it to see it stabilizes between 215-220. If it continues to drop, I will add another 300 calories per day. I continue to walk, and my waist size had dropped from a 44 to about a 37 (38 slightly too big, 36 a little tight). I still have some fat on my belly and lots of loose skin, so I'm doing strength training exercises each night to rebuild muscle mass and tighten up my belly.

RDI Calculator
I'm a new FatSecret user...have been using it only a week. Was surprised at the large number of calories the RDI calculator gave me per day (2900). Would have thought it should be a lot less. I manually reset it to 1850, in line with what I would've been allocated on Weight Watchers (roughly 50 calories per point). Anyone else think the numbers are too high?

P.S. I'm a big guy, 6'2", 265 lbs, 48 years old and low activity. I realize that these factors are used in the calculation, but still seems high.
