I am a retired nurse . I am generally a healthy eater and reasonably active. I swim every day and hike frequently. I have a great deal of experience helping people on their successful weight loss journey using a lifestyle change approach not a “diet” approach. I currently have way too many people in my life who are newly diagnosed diabetics and I think this maybe a good website for them to add to their own toolboxes. Several of them are not well versed in computer use and I am going to use it with them so I can be of help when they call me. To be clear, an eating program for the purpose of loosing and controlling weight is a much different animal than developing a personal eating program to gain and maintain control of diabetes.

How can I get exercise in?
I don’t know what kind of a TV/cable situation you have where you live, but ours has no end of exercise programs on usually in the early AM. Check yours, record and do when convenient. Ours have exercises for every level of activity you can image, seated, yoga, Pilates, killer active, disability, etc. check it out.

Option to add calories instead of a specific food?
I use a food scale and most things I weigh in grams. Irregularly shaped things like blackberries and nuts are more accurate that way. It’s also easier to measure light weight things like spinache using grams. I have noticed that grams comes up more often now as an option.
