jmb3450's Journal, 14 April 2016

I had my yearly visit to my cardiologist yesterday. Blood pressure was 116/67 and I've been off BP meds for a couple months now. 18 lbs lighter than last year's visit which is an agonizingly slow loss from my perspective. But in his view I'm doing all the right things and continuing to work on being healthier and improving my condition. EKG was perfect. 3 years ago in his view I was destined for bypass surgery at some point in the future and I felt like a ticking time bomb. Now I have full blood flow in all my coronary arteries and can do strenuous exercise with no discomfort or problems and run 5K's. Proof that with changes in diet and exercise it's possible to reverse heart disease.

Looks to be a beautiful Spring day here and will get to the low 60's. I just got my new micro-light fishing rod/reel yesterday, it collapses down to the size of a pen, actually looks like a pen with the cap on it. So I'll be running (literally) over to a lake at lunch to see if there are any trout biting. Here's a pic of it:

Here's where I'm going, a lake in the middle of a conservation park next to where I work, about a half-mile hike through the woods:

Fantastic news on your health. It's so much better to take your health in your own hands than a surgeon's. Good for you - truly!

Man, You're all geared up. You should come up for some steelhead fishing. :) So many people the last could of days with great news on their health. Diet sure beats the advanced chemistry approach... out the knife.

Thank you everyone for the kind words and support. @Gene - I got the rod/reel from penfishingrods.com. They're the originators of the gear, you can get knock-offs of similar looking stuff but their's is much better quality. Not bad in price really, the set I got was about 50 bucks shipped, pre-spooled with line. Because it's so light you have to keep a loose drag and let the fish be the boss, play the fish and tire them out before landing them...can't use the rod to lift the fish out of the water unless they're small or it could break the tip. But, keep that stuff in mind and be patient, people have landed 30lb fish with these things. Makes catching even relatively small fish pretty fun, and small enough to fit with all my gear in a small case I can easily take anywhere. I'm really looking forward to using it.
