jmb3450's Journal, 20 April 2016

Seems like I've been in limbo with weight loss for a while now. It's kind of crazy to get this close to goal and bog down. I like the concept and health benefits of of 5:2 eating so I'm going to give it a go again, started yesterday with fasting until late afternoon and finishing the day a little over 600 calories. Today will be a normal eating day then Thursday I'll target around 600 calories again. 2 days of that a week.

My "normal" target RDI is 1850 calories, I'm thinking of varying my normal eating days so that the day before the reduced calorie/fast days are 300 calories higher. I'll make that up by reducing calorie intake 200 calories/day the other 3 normal days. Reasoning for this is the extra food the day before fasts/low calorie will make those days easier to handle. Sounds good in theory, we'll see how it pans out. I'm feeling my mojo back, just have to stick with it to get where I want to be. 15 more pounds or so and I think I'll be pretty good with it.

We've got another beautiful day here, I think I'll get some fishing in during lunch. Here's a pic of last Saturday's dinner. Have a great day.

I think 5:2 should work for you. Give it a try Jim.

Good luck on the 5:2 IF. Can't wait to see how you get along with it.

Question for you: what is a 5:2? And this RDI is what your body burns by sleeping and resting? It must be really frustrating to get as close as you are but I think you, as it should be, are the type of person who will never quit. Am I wrong?

Those fish look fabulous - trout? Sorry if it is obvious - I seldom see fish on the hook!

Nice catch was that with the little pole?

Is your avatar a before and after pic together? I can't see too well on my phone.

HCB, yes they are rainbow trout. Madanjen, I think what you're referring to as calories burned just sleeping and resting is BMR, Basic Metabolic Rate. 5:2 is restricting food intake to 25% TDEE (total daily energy expenditure) two days of the week and eating normally the other 5 days. I'll do 16 to 20 hours fasting on the two days, that combined with low calories eaten provides some good health benefits, plus as long as I don't overeat the other 5 days provides enough calorie deficit for about a pound a week loss. RDI is my Recommended Daily Intake of calories, the total number of calories I'm planning to eat per day. Goal is to keep RDI lower than TDEE so I have a calorie deficit sufficient to lose weight. If I do this correctly I should be able to accomplish a couple pounds down a week. It's worked before and I really like it as an ongoing plan, just got to do it. As for quitting, never. My adherence to being right on plan has wavered a few times and I've been in status quo for too long, but I will never quit. Eventually I'll get to where I want to be, still hoping to show off some ab muscles at some point, lol.

@Rockiesfan, I had 3 poles out at the same time. Caught one on the little pole, it was fun, the fish took a couple runs back out when it got close to shore before I got it in. @Mistybenner, my avatar is a "progress" pic, front and side view, both taken at the same time and weight, pretty close to what I weigh now. I'm not at goal yet, once I'm at final anticipated weight, around 180 I think, I'll post a before and after. My before will be much heavier.

@Rockiesfan - The telescopic micro light pole is fun but can be a bit of a pain. The sections collapse easily when handling it and line eyelets easily get out of alignment with each other. It's good quality but just a result of what being telescopic means in it's design. I think if I was making the purchase over again I'd look into what is available in ultra or micro light that's not telescopic, maybe a multi-section pole, 5 sections or so.

I was invited to go fishing today at the lake Jmb3450, but I looked at the weather forecast for today and it called for rain and winds in the afternoon. Nice picture of the fish, good luck on your calories.

Thanks Jim, I actually have my regular 6 foot pole and in my truck I keep my pocket fisherman yes from Ronco and it works good I was looking for something more portable and still may get one of the one like you have.

Ummm, I think adding calories the day before a fast sorta of ruins the idea of eating less the next day! Perhaps if you ate a normal amount the day before and fasted for less time you might get better results :D You might try eating calorie free things like cucumbers or pickles or lettuce or other free foods to help get past the fast.

Hi Tammy. I'm probably not clear in describing my strategy. If I stick to plan, my overall calories in the course of a week should equal 1850 x 7 = 12,950 total. What I would do is eat 2150 (300 extra/day) calories the day before each fasting/low calorie day. The other 3 normal days I'd eat 1650 calories to make up for 600 extra calories. Total calories for the week would still be 12,950 and I'd have calorie deficits each day even with the two 2150 calorie days. Hopefully that clarifies better? :)

Absolutely beautiful weather for lunch and caught 4 fish in a half hour, you can't beat that! Catch and release this time so they lived to fight another day.
