I have been using Fatsecret for about four years. I had lost around 20 pounds from my heaviest weight before I joined Fatsecret. The last 15 pounds was a struggle and that is when I decided I needed help and joined everyone here on Fatsecret. I used to use this site just to track my weight but never used the tools available here to track my food intake. I use my Fitbit to track activity and exercise. When I started taking advantage of the tools here and with the encouragement from supportive Buddies, things changed. This is an amazing website and fantastic community. I'm happy I joined.

My profile picture is showing my potbelly that motivated me to do better. It was taken about the time I discovered Fatsecret. I can only imagine what I looked like 20 pounds before that. The last ten pounds have been the hardest. My true goal is 155 pounds but I have set my Fatsecret goal one pound lower than that. I consider myself to be in "Maintenance Mode" and that one pound helps me stay under 155. I keep using Fatsecret to help maintain my goal weight because it works for me...

Metamucil Sudden Weight Gain???
I recently turned on my Fiber Column on FS too. I was also surprised to find that my fiber intake is well below the recommended 30-38 for men. I was not surprised to find that most Americans do not consume the recommended either. I think that one reason is processed foods. Another reason is that many dieters restrict calories. I have seen a recommendation the one should consume 14 grams of fiber for every 1000 calories. I think it is very difficult to consume 30-38 grams of fiber eating 1800 maintenance calories a day...

I agree, the fiber absorbs water and holds it until it is eliminated.

How Often Do you weigh yourself?
Every morning after voiding and before eating breakfast or drinking any liquids. Sometimes I have to make adjustments if I return to the bathroom before eating...

I also suggest you ask your doctor. That's what I did. The answer may as simple as adding insoluble fiber and/or drinking plenty of water but your doctor is the one to ask...Neutral

I'm the person who started this thread. I was interested in finding out other people opinions and experiences with dietary fiber. Thank you to everyone who replied thus far. I think that it is actually a very personal subject and is seldom discussed publicly. I also think that that fiber is so important that it needs to be talked about.

It's been discussed the different types of fiber and their differences. It was mentioned if we eat a balanced diet that we will consume enough soluble fiber. I agree. My concern is that not everyone attempting to loose weight may not be eating a diet that contains enough soluble fiber. I encourage everyone to make sure you get enough soluble fiber daily. In short, eat your veggies...

Here's my personal experience with insoluble fiber. When preparing to have my first Endoscopy I complained to my Gastroenterologist about difficulty eliminating and the small size of my stool since aging. He suggested I add insoluble fiber to my diet daily. It worked wonders. Not only did it make going easier, it made them larger. Although I do not consume insoluble fiber daily at this time I still have the ease and bulk of my younger days. I do make it a point to eat plenty of non-starchy veggies these days. Occasionally, I take insoluble fiber, especially after a large meal off my plan. I do think there are health benefits from consuming fiber...
