From371to184's Journal, 06 August 2018

I hope this is an encouragement to a few - remembering where I've been.

While, at larger weights, over the past 14.5 months, I marked going from one BMI category to another... and celebrated!

But, now, as I'm closer to maintenance, homeostasis (call it what you will), the number on the scale... the BMI number... are just that... numbers.

And, the whole ideal of reaching/being a number doesn't resonate with me.

I guess what I'm saying is... I don't put much stock in conveniently fitting inside any type of clinical box.

In (small) part, thinking "clinically" got me where I was - by heeding advice that was designed by society as a "one-size-fits-all" approach to health and wellness.

Do you understand my frame of mind? Am I speaking Greek? Am I preaching to the choir?

I've NEVER been this small as an adult - NEVER. I've got no context to describe how I currently feel. Although I am aware of (some) limitations I have "earned" (thank you, Uncle Sam)... I've got no idea what I cannot do.

Dropping 151.5 lbs in the last 14.5 months without surgery has been the hardest (and, yet, MOST joyous) thing I've ever done (for me) in my life.

My chest is 42" (use to be 56"), my waist is 37.5" (use to be 64") and my hips are 39.5" (use to be 55.25")... and that's NOT taking into consideration what I believe the removal of the excess skin would do to further reduce those measurements.

Friends, this is virgin territory for me.

At times - and, I've confided in a few to this end - to this day, I often think of myself in terms of that morbidly obese guy that folks would cross to the other side of the street to avoid.

I know I have to claim my own goals; and, I believe that they're going to be more qualitative (NSVs, quality of life, physical ability) than quantitative (numbers, categories, etc.).

We all have to unlearn some of the mis-education we've been subjected to over the years (in my case, decades).

Sorry to wax rhapsodic - just talking (typing) it out helps me to process sometimes.

You are in your own lane going down Mr. From371to184 St. Only you are allowed on this street and can drive at any speed you choose. Your body, your rules. Screw what you think you knew based on what others wanted you to believe it the norm. Define EVERYTHING on your terms only brother. You are an amazing person and an AWESOME earth dwelling. I am so proud of you.

What an amazing journey, great to see you have stuck through it all. You are my hero of the day. Yes, you are, you have taken care of yourself and you deserve this. This will allow you to feel better and hopefully have a longer life. I know you must feel light on your feet. Having dropped I can stand longer and do more activities I would not do before. Your terms and your goals are all you ever need. As someone on here said, this is not a race. Very proud of your accomplishment.

I think it is great that you have accomplished this all in 14+ months. you deserve to reflect on your new lighter body and what you want to do next. It is only natural. I think it is great that you are sharing so openly and you are giving other folks encouragement to know they too can accomplish a goal like you did.

Welcome to your joys and sorrows in your new being, most certainly they belonged to you before by right of humanity, but your metamorphosis has supercharged your ability to experience them. I'm so happy for you.

Everything you are talking about is what I am going through now. I am now underweight (after being obese ALL my adult life). Ho much weight should I gain back? What weight should I be?

There is no weight that you should be, you simply bulk slowly until you feel that you need to cut again rinse and repeat.

Congratulations on an outstanding accomplishment. Don't know you feel about the terrain ahead. Hit maintanance short time ago, and feel slightly nervous about it. It spins in my head frequency, and current path is to go 'Retro'. This means absolutely no sweet or cookie as a snack. They are strictly reserved for dessert, after first having had a proper meal. (brings up images of a strict mother to me) This is one rule I focus on strong now, and want to live by.

You are amazing girl!! You did it the “hard way”, and yet, the most satisfying way! I’m proud to say I’m following in your path. I’ve been on a new eating regime (I don’t call it a diet) for 2 months. I’m down 28 lbs. I have 95 more lbs to go (that hurt writing that😖). I’m glad I’m not the only person having to lose a lot of weight. And the fact that you reached your goal gives me a boost of confidence. Congratulations!! You are an inspiration!!🏆
