I'm a retired accountant who spends my winters in Arizona with my husband, and the rest of the year in Kansas. I love all animals, but my favorite are dogs. We lost our best friend, Shotzie, this past spring, so now I hug & love on all our neighborhood dogs !!!

I love to read which I now have time to do, and also enjoy pilates, walking, and outdoor activities as much as possible.

Thankful for any time we get to spend with our oldest son in Arizona, and youngest son in Kansas. I'm enjoying retirement with my husband, doing what we've always dreamed about doing.

My diet started with Atkins, but have combined Atkins, Low Glycemic and Calorie counting so it's a combination diet trying for healthier foods on a daily basis.

I am thankful for Fat Secret and the buddies I've made so far. I appreciate the buddy support system.

I'm trying to do a combination low carb, low glycemic diet, but have kept my profile as Atkins for now.

Weight training
Melleecat
Before I retired I belonged to a women's gym, which I know is different than both men and women. Is there a personal trainer available to show you the proper use of the weight machines ? If so, then take advantage of using the personal trainer to show you the "ropes"... Then just get busy and use the machines Shock Before long you'll be surprised how your body will change Smile Don't be intimated by those "buff men" most of the have ego's that they probably don't even know anybody else is in the gym but themselves Rolling Eyes

A "Must Read for Newbies" 40 excellent tips:
Just another opinion I've read the 2002 book when I started in january, which I had to read and re-read to understand. In June purchased the new book "The new Atkins for the New You" and I like having more foundaiton vegetables to choose from and it's easier to understand, in my opinion. But whatever version works for you is good.

THREE WEEKS AND ONLY DOWN 1.6 LBS?????
If you are doing atkins induction, there should be no bread, no milk for the first 2 weeks. If you don't have an atkins books get the newest book out The New Atkins for the New You - copyright 2010. Many more foundation vegetables, and more suggestions. Plus the back of the book has a full weeks menu plus snacks to give you ideas of what to eat on a daily basis. Also write down everything that you eat, there are hidden carbs is a lot of items, such as calcium supplements... I didn't realize this until I looked at the carb count. When you look at labels for carb count to get net carbs you take the total carbs and subtract fiber count - this gives you net carbs per service for that food. Good luck.

I'm giving up!
All the advice posted is very good. Don't give up ! Are you using the newest atkins book ? When I first started I used an older version. The newest book "The New Atkins for a New You" - copyright 2010 - has more foundation vegetables to choose from and a little more lenient. This book also has in the back a week's worth of meals & snacks that are very realistic... If you're not using this book I would advise at least checking it out... Again, Don't Give Up !

atkins diet .........not losing
Very good advice from Coopwill about recording everything you put in your mouth, including any vitamins and supplements. I found out when i first started atkins that the calcium supplements had carbs in them that I wasn't counting. Also had the problem with not consuming enough net carbs to help loose weight. Good luck
