Hi All, I have been talking about losing weight for 2-3 years now and have made many feeble attempts, losing a little bit and than gaining more. I want to call this attempt the “Get Real” diet. In March my wife called me up wanting to give away my smaller jeans, I replied don’t get rid of those I plan to get back into them, she replied “Get Real”. At first I got upset, but what I finally realized was that she no longer believed in what I said. Even happily married I cant have that in my mind. So even though the doctors told me to lose weight or I wouldn’t be around long, it was a few words from that special one that has made me more determined than ever. (I know you have to do it for yourself and all that, but what has normally motivated me in the past is drama in my life. This is about the 5th time I have been on a diet where I had to lose more than 20 pounds, the second time over 80. In the late 70s I went on some diet where you didn’t eat anything but salad/drink mix, it did work, lost >20 pounds/month (not sure how safe). In the 80s I lost about 30 pounds just by quitting beer. In 97 I was about same Weight as now, got separated,had a tough time at work with a pain of a boss. Started working out, went on the Atkins diet and stuck to it even stricter than he recommended (I had something to prove). In about 10 months I was 175 pounds,stronger than I had ever been,with a good woman, and the ex begging for me back. Because of the kids I decided to give the marriage another try. 4 years later I found myself at 240 pounds, separated, met a great woman that became my wife. I went on the WW and lost 40 lbs and kept it off for a few years. In the beginning of 2009 I weighted 287.4, was getting tired of being this way,pushing 46 jeans, feet hurting,having a hard time tying my shoes,doctor telling me to lose weight or I won’t be around long and was only a few pounds away from having to request a seat belt extender,but it wasn’t until the end of March, 09 that I “GOT REAL”.
