Oh, that's horrible, I'm so sorry. Did they say there was a possibility of getting "rid" of it, if you continue eating right any everything? I'm sorry.

So sorry to hear that! And you only weigh 113 lbs. Hopefully you will be able to correct it by continuing this diet.

I'm very sorry to hear that! So will you have to take insulin? Some types of diabetes can be managed with diet alone. What all did the doctor say?

I'm not sure if diabetes will ever go away....but I believe you can control it with your diet.....Just keep on with making healthy choices.....I'm sorry for your diagnosis.....I've been called "borderline" diabetic before.....and uncertain what constitutes "crossing that line".....

I'm so sorry! My mother was diagnosed with diabetes almost 30 years ago. It can be very manageable and she has found that the diabetes website (diabetes.org) has been very helpful. Please keep us updated!

Sorry to hear that. THERE IS HOPE!! My hubby has diabetis type 2 and he use to take pills for it (no needles!) and one of our daughters has been a nurse over 20 yrs... through changing our diets and going sugar free in our house, he actually got off the pills and take no meds now, and he does NOT even have to test his blood. The doc checks him every 6 months now because he's been steady for so long now. Our daughter (the nurse) said it is rare for someone to get off meds for diabete's but it CAN be done. She was real proud of her dad. He will always be classified as a diabetic but it is controlled by his diet. He has been on the SB diet with me and is doing well. I hope you will be able to find your own solution and do what works best for you. Let us know how things go for you.

Gug~ Please email me privately if you'd like. I was told the same thing from my "old doc" and I went back to a very trusted doc instead and found out that I am indeed NOT truly a diabetic. I do have insulin intolerances, but not diabetic. Please do not lose hope. I highly recommend continuing on with your hard work and seek a second opinion by a trusted or recommended physician or ARNP. It is possible that they are over reacting to you and your levels, as the doc I "was" seeing. Please, feel free to email me privately, anytime!! I have a lot of info about it and I highly encourage you to check out thedailyplate.com and really start recording your eating and intake amounts. It will really help you. There is a group there, called Diabetics R Us {Type 2}... there is a few really great people there that can also help you and advise you. Please let us help you, if we can. I sooo know what you are going through as far as having been working so hard to be devastated by the diagnosis. I am actually considering a law suit of mal practice and neglect, on and on. I say, just try to relax and get a good second opinion and then move on from there. :) *hugs* It'll work out... you're in my prayers. :) ~bully

Gug - I am very sorry to hear of your health news....I am pre-diabetic, have arthritis in my knees and that along with high BP is what is behind my drive to improve my health - along with the other benefits of weight loss. I can't begin to tell you how much better I feel on the SB plan - more energy, my knees no longer ache and my weight is down considerably in the past 8 weeks -- BP is another story - but I think that is job related stress! When faced with a challenge - I try to think of those who are in a position that is worse than mine. A co-workers daughter is the Amer. Diabetes Ambassador - she was diagnosed at age three - and is now five. This little girl is beautiful and must watch her sugar intake, and monitor her blood several times a day - she even has a little pump that dispenses the insulin for her. Remembering this helps me make the right choices - if this cute little kid can do it .....I who have choices surely can do it! I think of the challenges that Bullytrouble faced in the beginning weeks of ther FS membership - and look at her now - a shinning example of one to has taken the bull by the horns and is managing her health issues. Absolutely get a second opinion - and this is something you can manage! We are all here for you - so hang in there and journal your fears and challenges - and we will weather the storm together!

Awh ... I'm sorry to hear about that. Things will get better for you. Remember that it always seems worse when we first learn of bad news but you just have to dig down deep and find your inner strength to pull you through.

I agree with bullyt that you should also seek out an "impartial" group like Diabetics R Us (although I am not familiar with it). I believe some doctors (not all, of course) are a bit quick to pull the trigger on many of our ailments and load us up with meds before exhausting all possibilities. Don't get depressed ahead of time, just go through the motions. This is serious business as you well know. Good Luck, God Bless!

AWE... you guys are sooooo amazining!! I am COVERED, from HEAD to TOE in GOOSE BUMPS by your beautiful support here for Gug. =D I am soooo impressed by you all... and thank you for your kind words, as well. PATS & 4THEHALIBUT I TOO love Led Zep and did INDEED put my name in for that pool in London! HAA! Gug~ please, when you can report back to us... we'd love to be here to try to help guide you or just be an ear for you to lean on. Please let us know what it is that we can do for you... we want to help. There is soooo very much information on Diabetes out there and I have found that there is two different views on it. There those that say if "your sugar is EVER over 120, you are diabetic" and then the newer thoughts are "you can be insulin intolerant before becoming Type 2 diabetic and with diet, exercise and monitoring, you can control it and keep it from getting out of control". I believe the later of the two... I think that newer research has proven that it IS possible to keep it "at bay" and "controlled"! I think that it is "old school" to just say that it's always type 2 diabetes. I think that before, there weren't as many people willing to try and control it, as well, our society didn't eat the way we do know, pushing us into Type 2 everywhere we look. Many years ago, it wasn't due to necessarily, over eating or poor food choices... it usually was more so that people inherited it from a relative. It's different now. We as a society, eat a very poor diet full of highly processed sugars and carbohydrates. Without going into all the details, I believe that is why we are seeing so much more Type 2. I think that more than not, would be able to try to manage it or control it with proper diet, exercise and monitoring. This is all my conclusion to what I've read over the years. I'm by far no expert. However, that being said, I cannot say enough how I fully recommend a second opinion from someone that is knowledgeable on the issue of Diabetes. I encourage you to do some reading, there are many sites here on the net with information pertaining to the insulin resistance, as well. If you'd like I'll help you in find them. You may want to take them in with you to your next doctors and ask what they think of this info. If they poo-poo it, then I'd recommend finding a doc that will look at and reason with it. It is FACTUAL information and it IS YOUR HEALTH. It is NOT FAIR to just push you towards Type 2, if you truly are not, yet. You have to FIGHT for your own health, these days. The doctors are getting PAID with EACH RX they write!! The more they right, the more they get paid... it's a circle, but in it's simplicity, that's how it truly works. One other note, you may consider seeing a naturopath, as well. I plan to when, my schedule can fit it in... I KNOW that most of my pain relief in my feet is due to taking NATURAL SUPPLEMENTS. I really think that Eastern medicine is overlooked greatly by our Western culture. I am NOT a doctor. I have had to learn what I have through my own determination to find it out. I have done my own personal research and am working from that. That, and the help of my trusted ARNP (nurse practitioner) who is up on the newest research and what to do, etc. Doctors just go on and write Rx after Rx, where I have found that an ARNP is more likely to LISTEN to you and try to HELP you rather than just pass out another Rx. Well, that's a long one, I know... sorry. Keep us posted, we are thinking of you! ~bully xoxo

GUG~ Please seek a 2nd opinion! Bullyt and I are VERY similar in circumstances! Being told your diabetic, without the "Proper" tests, is much to easy for doctors to throw around. Do some research online, too, to familiarize yourself with what a diabetic is! Having a blood sugar monitor on hand isn't a bad idea, either. I bought myself one on ebay, along with test strips. It requires a doctor's prescription for a monitor and test strips if you want insurance to cover it. But, ebay has tons of them for $20. and less. I suggest tracking your own blood sugar levels, daily, 4 times a day, 2 hours after each meal and once first thing in the morning (fasting). Track it for 2 weeks and then take your results to a different doctor and ask their opinion. Being told you're a "diabetic" is a big deal and very serious! I am insulin resistant, due to having PCOS, and have struggled with my weight and blood sugar levels because of it. However, I've been careful of the food I ingest and my blood sugar numbers have been good for a couple of years now.
