Greetings my Best Buddies!

Bodhi, my darling cat, saw his regular vet today. He is positive for pancreatitis - but we don't know details until he gets his ultrasound to check out all the major organs and intestinal tract. We go to a cats only clinic so the doctor is excellent. Bodhi is taking a liquid antibiotic, anti-nausea medicine, and something to help increase his appetite.

He is up and around more and sitting on the couch with my husband instead of hiding BUT he still is not eating though...if he does not eat, he will have to be hospitalized.

I can barely stand it! I am praying his condition is easily treatable and nothing else is revealed in the ultrasound on Wednesday!

Here is a photo of him when he is working!

Hope the rest of his test are good I know the waiting is awful. When Merlin wouldn't eat we tried chicken baby food and he ate that. Also a catnip flavored treat. I know their all different but thought I'd pass it along. That's how we gave him pills crushed them and mixed them in baby food. Prayers for both of you.

I love his face! My sister, too, had good luck feeding her ill kitty baby food (meat). I hope he is feeling better soon, and his condition is treatable without much impact to him. Sweet boy.

THANKS so much! He drank some juice from a can of tuna - and a couple small bits of cat food. He gets his ultrasound Wednesday at 12:00pm to rule out anything more serious - Vet says pancreatitis is reasonably treatable. Just got to keep Bodhi hydrated and get some food in him.

Oh wow, pancreatitis is really hard on us, I'd hate to think how bad it must be for a little fur-baby that can't tell you what's wrong. My father just recently went through a long bout with it and he was miserable. He nearly waited too late but has now had surgery and is doing very well. I'll hope that is the case for your Bhodi too. Anything at all fatty will be a problem since the pancreas produces enzymes that help break those compounds down hence the canned foods that would normal tempt him might be a bit much on his system. With many of the rescues that I've done with animals in really poor condition, a homemade boiled chicken and rice combination worked really well. It's super easy on the system and they usually love it so it gets something in them to allow the body to keep on fighting. Like us, the rice provides carbs for quick energy and the protein allows for that slower burn to give them something to run on for the interim. To keep that fat down, do it just like you would for yourself... no skin. It doesn't take much so just 1/2 of a boneless, skinless breast in enough water to cover, boil until it's super tender then add just a handful of rice and cook until it's nearly mush. Stir it all up so that shreds of chicken are throughout and offer in tablespoon sized portions. Like I said, with a sick one, it just doesn't take much at all so you'll have plenty left over to feed throughout the day/week depending on how he takes it. I keep mine in the fridge and nuke it for just a few seconds to take the chill off before offering it. As they get stronger, I add vegetables to up the nutritional level but not until their system has had some recovery time. Good luck with your little one. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
