jmb3450's Journal, 06 January 2017

Went to see a podiatrist, the verdict is my left achilles tendon has fresh tears, the right one also but those are well into the healing process. Treatment is stretching/strengthing exercises 3 times a day, rest, and icing. He's ordered what I think is a compression sleeve for my leg and ankle, should get it on Monday. For the time being I'll be like Uncle Joe from the TV show Petticoat Junction...moving kinda slow. My fitbit numbers will be pretty low for a while.

I guess running on concrete floors with inappropriate shoes is what caused the injury, no more doing that. In the meantime I'm lowering my RDI to 1700 calories which is 500 calories below my estimated calorie needs at goal weight, so probably a good calorie goal to shoot for anyway.

Heal quickly! Never underestimate the value of good shoes. I know that I don't after fighting the effects of plantar fasciitis for several years!

That concrete is really hard on feet; had the same thing happen to me a number of years ago. Be sure you take the time you need to heal fully so that you do not reinjure your feet; we only get one set of them and they have to last a lifetime.

At least now you know and have a plan in place. I had bunion surgery an am in a boot so no cardio for me at all...but I am doing seated bench work for upper body and some floor core work for abs...you might be able to do a little without stressing the achilles

Jmb, yesterday, I was walking in the mall, and it was on tile flooring, and my left hip was hurting me real bad, and then suddenly, I was walking on carpet, and ALL the pain instantly went away, I was SHOCKED! My wife is complaining of foot pain from her workplace changing from carpet to tile. Good luck with that, and take it easy!
