Hi! I am Paula and I live in Colorado. I am a 55-year old mother of three, ages 30, 22, and 21. I have spent most of my life taking care of others and ignoring my own problems. I am out of excuses. I need to help me now.

I joined Fat Secret in 2010 thinking that walking for 45 minutes every day would get me the weight loss I desired. It didn't. I didn't log my food, I didn't check in every day, I just didn't take it seriously. My mistake!

In 2012, I lost 38 pounds by changing my eating habits drastically. I went from stress eating and eating without regard for calories and nutritional content to a diet that focused on lowfat, nutrient rich foods that kept me munching virtually all day. The plan worked very well for me as I didn't need to measure portions. I used Fat Secret as my primary tool for weight loss. I logged absolutely everything I ate. I read journals and they helped me stay focused knowing that I was in this with 1000's of other people with similar aspirations. Buddies inspired me with their stories and journeys even more. The challenges helped me set goals and start new exercise habits.

And then my mother passed away. I became the primary caregiver for my father (recently passed away from Alzhemer's) and the stress of taking care of him, losing my mom, being a single parent, working 50+ hours a week, etc. all took a toll. I stopped using Fat Secret, I ate without thinking, and I spent most of my time on my butt - working driving, or sitting with my dad.

I now have time for me. I need to take care of myself so that I can get to and enjoy my golden years. I have a trainer at work who is helping me improve my mobility. I have books, articles, and all of you real life experts to help me improve my diet. I am so excited to move toward health. I need this to work. My health requires it, my psyche needs it.

I welcome you to Fat Secret and I hope you have the same wonderful experience that I have had. Here is to more weight loss!

Veg or Flex buddy?
Hi! I follow the Ornish diet, but I don't have heart disease and so I can still eat meat every now and then. It sounds a lot like being a flexitarian.

I have lost 40 pounds in the past five months and you can count me among your buddies. I will send you a buddy request! Onward and downward!

How Often Do you weigh yourself?
I weigh myself every morning and I am accustomed to fluctuations due to how hydrated I am. I record any new lows. If I just weighed once a week, I might weigh myself on a bad day and not give myself mental credit for the progress I have made that week. That would be disappointing!

Reasons to lose weight (besides health/looks)...
Next summer when I have acheived my target weight, I will once again climb Glenwood Canyon to a beautiful place called, Hanging Lake". It is a "difficult" rated trail, but as I huffed and puffed my way up it this past summer (taking numerous breaks along the way), I was passed by a woman who was blind and a woman who was a breast cancer survivor. These two truly inspirational women and their supporters convinced me that that only person who could change me is me. The only person holding me back is me becuase you can do whatever you put your mind to. Another inpsiration along the trail was the Air Force Academy Hockey team - they were RUNNING the trail for fitness. Wow!

I can't wait to climb the trail once again with my teenagers as hanging lake is such a truly beautiful place. It is worth every step of the trail.
