Annabelle3117's Journal, 07 March 2014

Good morning!! I have lost a grand total of 87.6lbs in one year! I have before/after photos, they're pretty terrifying lol. Back and forth on sharing them but perhaps I will once I get a little more time to work on them. As it turns out eighty-seven pounds is a lot.

I had never been successful in a weight loss program before. The most I had ever lost was twenty pounds here or there and it always came back with a vengeance when I threw in the towel because my plan was unsustainable. Sustainability is HUGE in the long run. If it's not something you can live with, then you wont. I kept all my favorite foods and instead practiced moderation. Eventually I started paying attention to protein/carb content and make further adjustments in that department. Fitness has played an enormous roll in my journey as well. I don't believe I would have lost nearly as much without pushing myself in the gym. I didn't always have a lot of support, my husband jumped off the bandwagon last spring and my mom... lord... "well a little bit ain't gonna hurt ya none!". She was right though, and I learned an extremely valuable lesson.

This past year I learned how to LIVE and LOSE. Not one or the other. I've partied like a rock star, and I've eaten humongous meals with a bajillion carbs, it didn't kill me. In the past that is where I would have fallen flat on my face, ordered a pizza and called it. Nope, that's not how it works. This is my life, it's not a 'time out'. Life is too short for time outs. I'm not going to turn down dinner invitations or drinks with friends, what if I never get another opportunity?? But I will moderate, and adjust the following week to account for it. I have found some balance, and I have learned how to come back from a rough weekend or vacation. Priceless.

Fifty-two pounds to go till I reach my big goal, which will put me in the normal range on the BMI chart. My smaller goals though, are as follows...

1) 186lbs - my 100 pound loss, less than 12.5lbs to go!
2)174lbs - so long 'obese' category of BMI chart

I'll work on more once I meet those. Happy Friday everyone, Have a WONDERFUL weekend :-)

Wow! Look at you too. So pretty. You were before too, but wow. It took me just over a year to lose 65. Half measures, a lot of time away from home (I know, excuses, excuses.) Good luck on phase 2 of the weight loss. I agree. The key at the end is keeping it off and using the weight loss period as a learning phase. Think of the weight loss phase as probation. (Never been arrested or in jail... just saying.) :) Weight loss is probation and keeping it off is minding your manners so you don't go back. A buddy on here pointed out that the hard part of keeping the in weight off is that there's no real way of celebrating no change. Maybe at the end of it we should all declare our re-birthday. The day when the new us was born. I'm going to call mine March 1st. It wasn't, but I've just decided. I'm doing it! You're doing awesome.

I may not have 87 pounds to lose, but I appreciate your philosophy on weight loss. I too believe you have to live to lose. I still eat things I love, just in a mindful way. I have gone out to eat, attended potlucks, and had treats. Exercise is playing a HUGE role in my weight loss as well. You are amazing and with the valuable lessons you've learned, there is no reason the weight need EVER come back. That's the problem with most other methods of weight loss. Congratulations!

Fantastic !! You are so right, what you do has to be liveable for life, not a fad or a crutch. It's hard work and so worth it. We fundamentally change the way we look at life and food. Very proud of you and thank you for being an inspiration to others just starting their journey !!

I hope that now that you've been working it for a year and you've lost a great amount of weight that you'll always be happy with you. I've often dreamed of what it would be like if I was smaller, tell me Yolanda is it everything you thought your life would be like? You must be feeling so good right now I hope that feeling stays with you everyday from here on.
