GOOD NEWS ABOUT DIABETIS! Hubby is now considered NON-diabetic! after his appointment with doc today that was the good news. Hubby has been diabetic for at least 20 yrs, and today he now off the list all because of the South Beach Diet and getting a little more exercise. He is at his goal weight. Like Information he sort of worms up and down between 165 and 160. He eats south beach (thats what we serve in this house now) and his bloodwork got better real fast. I think we started this diet around November 2007 and we just kept getting taken off med's every time we went to the doctors. Now I am med free, hubby is free of some meds and the rest have been reduced. We expect more reductions in his meds with a little more time. Some meds cannot ever be removed.. like my thyroid meds (can't grow a new one). I think this is great news that this diet works and can give you a longer and better quality of life. Im so glad my hubby went along with me on this diet and changed our lives, we want to be healthy for as long as possible and be able to enjoy these golden years.

BRAVOOOO! I'm so happy to hear the GREAT NEWS!! Isn't that just AWESOME??? :) I know the feeling, being called "pre-diabetic" just last Oct., and by changing my eating habits ALONE, I am "out of the proverbial woods", as of my last blood work, that is. :) Way too cool! Btw... have you guys tried the xylitol, sugar replacement yet? I absolutely LOVE it and it's about a zero on the glycemic index!! It's truly just like sugar, to me. :) Keep on kickin' it up... so happy for you and hubby getting off all them meds and getting others reduced!

Thanks bully, I have not tried the xylitol but will go put it on my shopping list right now. Actually we don't use much sugar on anything but in our baked desserts from the south beach diet books. We've been using splendaa but I will try the xylitol, thanks, I'll let you know how we like it

Wow, Janelleas! Congratulations to you both. You've worked so hard, it's great to see your success being rewarded with good health and fewer meds. Very impressive stuff. :)

Big congrats to your hubby! I went to my GYN today and he was amazed at how well I have done on my weight and lipids. He went on and on about it and wanted me to tell his assistant all about SBD so she could get healthy too. Before I left, his assistant was already looking up the book on the internet. He told me I probably have metabolic syndrome but SBD is controlling it well. He couldn't believe the difference in my lipids. That visit made my day as I'm sure your husband's visit did.

That's such great news! Most doctors will tell you that it is very rare for people to be taken OFF meds so you are among the lucky few who have managed to turn their lives around and change the course of their health. Bravo!

Awesome! It gives me hope for my looming appt with the endo. I am hoping to get off cholesterol med and glucophage! Like you I am stuck with the thyroid med but that does not worry me half as much as the others. I hear "We Are the Champions" playing in my head!

That certainly is fantastic news Janelle, after being diabetic for so long it must have come as somewhat of a surprise to him to have restored himself to normal. I believe Vicky (Imluuvd) did something huge there for you both with SBD and Fatsecret.

Ooh, that's fantastic news for you both about your hubby. Wow, amazing really when he's taken medication for so long. It just goes to show that what we eat and being over weight can have such an impact on our health. You both keep up the great work though as South Beach quite obviously likes the two of you very much! ;o)

How wise of you two to turn your health around for the better. So many people just ignore their diseases and get worse and worse. I admire your reaching your goals on your own, by sucessfully sticking to the plan.

We really didn't do it on our own, ImLuuvd got us started and the rest of you here helped us tremendously on this journey. I've still got more road ahead of me. Hubby is phase 3 now.
