I thought it was time for a bio update since I have been on this fatsecret journey for almost 1 1/2 years! That, in and of itself, is a record for me. I've not ever kept to a weight loss effort, lost this much weight, or been able to keep it off for anywhere near this length of time in the past. I attribute my success to this site; the wonderful insights, encouragment, and advice from my buddies; my new habit of journalling (many epiphanies have been reached simply by putting my thoughts down!); and the support of my loving family.
And one thing I did for myself that I feel really contributed to my success thus far was to embrace exercise. Shortly after joining fatsecret, I discovered a link to The Couch to 5k program through a post on the forum here. I had always wanted to be a runner but thought I needed to be fit before even thinking about starting. This program claimed otherwise so, although skeptical, I downloaded the program and began to train while still carrying 225 lbs. and having no semblance of physical fitness. In 9 short weeks I was able to run non-stop for 30 minutes and continue to run to this day. I also compliment my running with other forms of exercise, particularly Turbo Jam, strength training, yoga and more recently, a Yogalates class (which I love!).
This healthy journey has had its ups and downs, potholes and detours, but I have kept fighting to get back on the path. To all of you about to start your journey and to all of you who are struggling along with me, I wish you success. Failure only happens when we stop trying!
