crankybuzzard's Journal, 07 October 2017

So my bride and I are getting ready to go out for our usual weekend lunch when she tells me to wear the outfit that she laid out for me in the front bedroom. I went in and saw a shirt I've only worn a couple of times, and don't really like, but she asked for it, so I put it on.

Then she had me stand in front of the fireplace for a picture. I asked what was up and she said she'd show me at lunch. When she showed me the comparison I was really blown away. I see myself everyday in a mirror, so I haven't really seen any changes.

Sadly, she took the picture as I was asking why, so I have a goofy look on my face, but wow, I can really see a difference now!

The before pic was when I had peaked at my heaviest in June of this year, around 350#, now down to 297ish... still a ways to go, but what a difference a few months can make!

I had my out of control diabetic husband read this last night and he actually took notice. This is a great before and after post. Cranky are you also diabetic? If so how do you manage your insulin as you cut carbs? If you’re burning fat for fuel? Fat is CHON. It has a nitrogen attached to its molecular structure which is excreted in the urine when it is metabolized. Ok. Now you’re using the fat for fuel so do you still take insulin in order for your body to be able to utilize the remainder of the molecule? Also wondering have you heard how people with kidney problems can have problems with high fat/high protein? A lot of times those people wind up with protein restrictions? Catch-22? I’m just so amazed with your results. I know how much his quality of life would improve with weight loss and stable blood sugar. Thanks for your brain power thinking about these things.

Great work! A comparison pair, like that, can usually replace numerous paragraphs extolling the virtues of the LCHF WOE. Congratulations.

Hi Paula, much to the surprise of my cardiologist and my PCP, I'm not diabetic, but both were telling me it would probably happen. That really wasn't my turning point though. To this day I'm still not certain why, but I decided that I would start looking into the way of eating that my Dr talked to me about and I would make a plan and a timeline. Then on August 1st of this year, I pulled the trigger. The first week was HELL! I literally hurt, but I knew it would be short lived because my prior research had said so. I go in next week for blood work and will see what it looks like compared to 6 months ago, I'm thinking it will look really good.

Thanks for the support everyone! I won't name names, but a few of you really jumped in and took me on as a "project". That is one BIG reason for my success thus far. As for my "bride" as I refer to her, I put a ring on that finger 12 years ago and haven't regretted a day of it! She's been very supportive and I'm just now getting her to quit apologizing when she orders a chicken fried steak or other carb laden foods. LOL
