"How's the diet going"?
I hear that on a regular basis from some folks that know I have decided to make a major change in my life. At first, when asked this question, I would reply with a "great", or a, "just fine"...
Now, I tell them that "I'm not on a diet, I've made a change to my lifestyle."
Today, at lunch, when I ordered a 3 egg omelette loaded with mushrooms, cheese, onions, and jalapenos, with a side of bacon, the lady that went to lunch with us snootily said; "I thought you were dieting"... The below isn't a direct quote of what I said, but she heard most of it, and my coworker, that's my diet buddy, almost fell out of his chair laughing at the horrified look on her face!
I'm not dieting so I can fit into a new suit of clothes, or to look good for the vacation next month, I've made a lifestyle change so that I'll be happier with myself, possibly get off of some medications that were prescribed due to my poor life choices, be able to do things that I couldn't do in the last decade or so due to my size, and finally, to live long enough to enjoy retirement and grand kids (none yet, but hoping).
I've come to the realization that I'm not really having to TRY and figure out what I can or cannot eat any longer, it's become second nature to me in a short amount of time. I've realized that if I blow the carbs today, I'll make up for it by not blowing them for the next couple of weeks. I've also realized that a tray table on an airplane no longer rests on my belly in the down position, I fit into a restaurant booth, and I can actually see my toes when I look straight down!
I'm eating foods that I love, still having my adult beverages, and I can go to parties or restaurants without fear. This next weekend, I'm hosting a fish fry for upwards of 50 people, without fear of "falling off" or giving in. I'll eat a filet, and I may have some slaw or potato salad, will it hurt me? No, not in the long run, because I've changed my lifestyle to eat like my body needs 95-98% of the time I sit down at the table...
No, I'm not on a diet, I'm living and eating the way I should have been for a long time... And I'm enjoying every minute of it!
Does THIS plate look like something someone on a diet eats?
KETOlicious for sure! Fat 50g, Net Carbs 7.3, Protein 41.8g, and Calories 653...
Ok, off my soap box! Have a great weekend all!
