Retired Registered Nurse living 6/6 between NY and Fl. Life long weight control issues. My quality of life would be improved if I were to continue to lose weight. I have lost 30 lbs. by modifying my intake. I.E. giving up soda, bread, candy, ice cream and butter. A lot of empty calories. I have had chronic pain and arthritis for many years. I believe that less weight would be less stress on my back and knees. I can already see the difference in my mobility. I look forward to the support of people on the same journey to improved health and overall quality of life. Update 8/12/2017 My starting weight was 224 lbs in 2/2017 on 1200 calories diet. I join Fatsecret at 196 lbs. and as of Aug. 10, 2017 am 179.5. Very 😁. Overall those months it's about 1 lb. a week which is ideal for long term maintenance of my weight loss and that's what my goal is. Now it's Sept. 21 and I'm 10 lbs from my goal of 160 lbs and wondering about a new goal? Do I lose more or doi let my body adjust and stabilize at this weight? It really takes some thought.

Vitamin K
I also can't do the salads and greens as you can see by my previous note. We both have a clotting disorder. You're probably on Coumadin too? Anyway its going to come down to portion control and calories. That's been successful for me. I was 224 in February and 167 on Sunday. I'm 63 with chronic pain due to Thoracic and lower spinal stenosis, and have also lost an Achilles' tendon so exercising is complicated. But I'm not short of breath from being overweight anymore. You'll figure it out and everyone is here for you. COPD is definitely a severe limitation. As a nurse I understand how stressful your illnesses are but you can take control of your life with the help of everyone, the support, and resources of Fatsecret.

Vitamin K
Vitamin K is essential to clotting in the body. It's found in spinach in particular. I have a clotting disorder and have to take an anti-coagulant 'Coumadin' for the rest of my life after a massive pulmonary embolism and multiple deep vein thrombosis. It is essential to clotting but in my case to much can really harm me. Interestingly enough some foods can make my blood go in the other direction and take too long to clot? Eating lots of tomatoes 🍅 in the summer has effected it in the past.

How Often Do you weigh yourself?
I record my weight twice a week because the program on Fatsecret is pretty outrageous the way it swings and says you're gaining 7lbs a week and will meet your goal in 10 years or you're losing 7lbs a week and will meet your goal in 10 minutes.
There is less crazy 😜 variation on my charts weighing twice weekly. I get up at 6am, take my medications which include a diuretic and go back to bed. When I'm up for the day at 0900 and void, I weigh in getting a 'dry weight' after the diuretic has worked. I agree the daily weights allow me to stay on top of changes related to calories, sodium or fluid retention. Different strokes for different folks. 😉

Losing weight
I agree with you.. We have to develop sound eating habits because we don't have the normal cues in our make up that trigger we're full or it's more difficult to restrain our urges? However you phrase it? I also find that the active process of weighing, measuring portions and counting serving sizes serves to continually reinforce the new behavior I am choosing. I gave up hopping on the scale every time I turn around to see if I lost an ounce too. 3X weekly max. and it's ok if I only weigh twice. I'm meeting my objectives and moving forward to my first weight goal. Then I'll set my next one. I always set this huge goal and become disappointed 😔 in myself, when I fizzle out after a few laps. Good luck everyone. I may not post for a few days? On vacation but plan to do my journal in the evening to myself connected. Best regards everyone, Paula
