Hi, I'm 55 years old, 5'3.5" have the most supportive husband in the world and have struggled with my weight for years. The only diet that has ever worked for me is Atkins. There is a point in my progress however that I hit bottom and go off the diet. I think it is when my metabolism speeds up and I don't increase my calories. If I can hang in there through that time, I'm golden. This time, I want to recognize that I'm there and change my diet to accomodate. Finally, if I can get my body fat low enough and my weight just a bit below my goal, I will be able to maintain my weight without such intense attention. The reason is that muscle requires 50 times more calories than fat to sustain--something besides me is working toward keeping me at my appropriate weight. Wish me luck!

Biggest loser for wii fit
what's the program generally about? I got the Wii Fit for Christmas and haven't hooked it up yet. Is the Biggest Loser better than Wii fit?

I HATE Exercise!
I don't like restarting exercise from 0 time and time again. It's so hard! I invested in a very good elliptical trainer (translated into expensive)... Since it's a good one, it works as well as if I went to the gym. Also, you are supposed to vary your exercise from time to time so your body doesn't get used to it. Since this has 24 levels, I go up one level every few weeks. I think it's working really well. I get up early and treat myself to a relaxing mug of coffee w half and half before I jump on the trainer.

My routine--get up verrrry early
Test urine for ketones
weigh myself (must weigh naked to test body fat, etc)
Since I have no clothes on, I put my workout clothes on
I bring my hot steaming mug of coffee with cream back to bed and jump on fatsecret to record my weight
Eventually, my coffee is gone and I am done with my computer work
I go into the den and get on the elliptical trainer and work out for 40 min with a 5 min cool down
I stretch
I jump in the shower to get ready for work

There you have it!

How often do you weigh?
I weigh every morning as soon as I get up. Although it is against conventional wisdom to do so, it gets me accustomed to the scale going up and down, sometimes in no relation to what I do or do not eat. It may be fluid retention, increased muscle mass that cause weight gain or, conversely, muscle mass loss that causes weight loss (very bad.) The 'number' on the scale has become something to look at and record vs a value judgement on my week. Also, I don't have the huge disappointment of thinking I must have lost x pounds because I have been so 'good'. I don't expect to lose on a daily basis so if it doesn't go down, I don't have an emotional reaction to that. It's been working pretty well for me. Good luck on your plan--lucky you that you are breast feeding--your little one is helping you out!

Low Carb Breakfast Ideas???
ok--now for the low work, lazy woman's guide to breakfast. Atkins Chocolate Chip Granola Bars. They taste great w coffee. I have an hour drive to work so after I work out, it's a great treat to eat a bar and coffee on my way to work. By the time I get there, I only want one huge cup of water to take me through my morning. Enjoy!
