I was once a college athlete playing Division I Soccer in the Big East Conference. Then, life got more complicate with job, wife, and kids. In fact, it was 40 lbs more complicated. My kids starting making "fat man" jokes. I could foresee my future. I was going to become the typical middle aged, overweight dad. I had to take control of my life.

Turning 40 years old was my wake up call to make my health a priority. At my worst I was 190 lbs. I made a new year's resolution to commit to weight loss. I was expecting to complete this plan in a year. Instead, in 4 months, I completely transformed myself to my "glory days". I currently weigh the same as I did in high school and college. I made it back.

I immersed myself in understanding nutrition and exercise. By counting my calories with Fat Secret, I was very honest about my food intake. Now, I fully appreciate the value and power of a single calorie.

Now, losing the weight is no longer good enough. I want to look "ripped".

Completed half marathon in 1 hour 55 minutes and 23 seconds.

Moving on to bodybuilding. I will dedicate a year to bodybuilding to enter a contest. Going on a muscle gaining nutrition plan.

To protein shake or no protein shake?
Chocolate Milk. This was the most commonly used post recovery drink after lifting heavy weights before protein shakes existed. I read that in a bodybuilding magazine.

Doing everything right.. but i feel like i am gaining weight .,. is this normal??
Calories still count in this type of Diet. If you eat too many calories, you will not lose weight despite being strict on this type of diet. Also, I believe the Adkin's diet is a good short term diet but not a long term diet. A reasonable amount of carbohydrates are necessary for healthy living. By the way, when Dr. Adkin's died, he was obese. I'm always skeptical about the success of this diet when the author did not follow his own advice.
