I've always been a big girl. Until about 2 years ago though, I worked a job that kept me active and on my feet every day, and lifting up to 70 lbs regularly. I think I was reasonably "fit" for a fat chick. Then I took a new job, finally in my field, and a good start on a lower rung of the career ladder I intended on climbing. I went from an active job to 100% sedentary, and my weight ballooned dramatically.
I was furloughed from my job on Sept 1st, and within 2 weeks I'd spent so much time with "comfort food", I'd gained around 10 lbs. I'm devastated with my job loss, but I am trying to look at this time as a gift- more time with my family, an ailing father and frail mother and a husband who I only saw for 2-3 days a week.
It's also a gift of time for myself, to stop making excuses and do what I need to do with my diet and health, to make that job search more productive so that hopefully, someday, the first thing a potential employer sees when I walk into a room is not my WEIGHT.
