No insane carbs cravings AT ALL on the first 3 days of Atkins. Really, I don't miss them one bit. I was on a pretty restricted carb diet anyway prior to this. I had already given up alcohol, sugar and desserts of all kinds, and most bread and starch. So the only real "carbs" I was getting was from fruit, the rare English Muffin, and Campbell's soup! Not that much to give up, right?

Amazing how the lack of carbs makes me feel "lighter" and less dragged down than before. I'm kind of digging it! The fat and protein really does keep me full longer. "They" have been saying this forever, but I didn't notice it until the carbs went away entirely. For me, as long as there were carbs in my life at all, that whole "protein keeps you full longer" deal was BS. NOW, I'm finally buying into it!

The high protein has me constipated, but I feel things churning, so I expect some movement a little later on. I can't eat my prunes, Sorbitol Vitamin C or Sugar Free Life Savers as the constipation cure anymore - the carbs are way too high in all three! LOL. But the salads and massive amounts of tomatoes should catch up.

I must admit, it's a thrill to eat a little blue cheese dressing on my salad and a slice of cheese before bed. And Laughing Cow - boy, I sure missed those. I feel like I'm eating more enjoyable foods, it's just a little more challenging with my on-the-go lifestyle - I can no longer run into Del Taco for a Turkey Taco. And I need to keep ground beef in the house a lot more than before.

But it's a small price to pay. I have a feeling I'm looking at an awesome weigh in tomorrow - fingers crossed!

you're only .5 from your all time low. You'll blow that out of the water by the weekend.

Yeah, on a cut, protein is THE deal. That and a little quality fat. Give it time to work. It will.

I'd suggest you get an avocado in there from time to time. Quality, positive fats in avocado.

I'm right there with ya on the proteins and fats! But since I'm not that familiar with Atkins I'm just wondering: can you eat brussels sprouts? They always, ahem, *work* for me and might be a good replacement for the prunes!

If you wish, after the first two weeks you can add berries and melon, then other fruits and legumes gradually. But it's up to you how long you stay in induction (the first phase). When you feel you want some more variety, you might want to add in a new food each week. That way you won't feel deprived or bored with the lifestyle. It sounds like it's going great for you and you've already had amazing results. Good luck, and I wish you continued success with it!

Go easy on the tomatoes, high in sugar/carb. Nice to see someone else enjoying Atkins and learning new things about food. I have been on since May 25th and to date lost 25.2 lbs. It has opened up a new doorway to the success of losing weight and looking at food in different ways... I don't notice any of the tempting foods that are in the supermarket that I use to see and crave for .... its as if they do not exist... I love what I eat now and don't feel deprived one bit...I am doing OWL and loving it...Good luck with your journey, if you stick to the plan you will have great success... Atkins ..low carb/high fat is the answer...I have had journeys with other plans (weight watchers etc.) and nothing worked and as easy as this one has, so that says enough in itself to be a believer. delete

Try spinach - it is a natural laxative, low carb, and good for you too!

Eddie, I hate avocados, so the "good" fat will have to come from elsewhere, but thank you for the idea! Re-E, I know the tomatoes have high carbs, but peek at my food journal - it's practically my only source of carbs when I'm eating eggs, lettuce and ground beef the rest of the time! The reading I did insisted I get most of my carbs from veggies and I'm trying to do exactly that. Updating journal shortly with more.

Take pysllium husk (fiber pills) about 20 minutes before dinner 5-6 capsules (look up dosage to be certain). A lot less inexpensive than metamucil. You can buy at Target or Walmart too.

Glad it's working for you so far.

King, my problem is mainly physical and due to the shape of my colon being pointy at the corners. Old journals tell the whole story, but I'll keep your advice on the back burner, thank you!

You can eat all veggies, except for starchy veggies, on Atkins, so no worries. It's very good to eat lots of veggies and have the net carbs be mostly from veggies. You've gotta try the MIMs after your first 2 weeks. They are good for grain cravings and I used to love them with peanut butter. Butter or cream cheese is good too.
