Well, I got my great weigh-in I was hoping for, and things finally moved along in the prune department which helped a lot.

Day 4 and my Ketone Strips arrived. For those not aware of what these do, they measure the amount of ketones in your urine. Ketones are a by-product of the body's fat-burning process. After 2 days, they should have turned purple of at least lilac.

But mine were beige. Not a good sign. I'm a little bummed. But the article I read stated that not everyone's sticks turn purple. It's individual and has to do with liver efficiency, how much working out you do (I do a lot, so that might negate it), and other things.

The bottom line is whether you are losing weight, blah blah. Yes, I am, so I'm happy. Of course, I'm such a well-programmed little "follower", I want my damned stick to turn purple like it's "supposed to". LOL.

But am I happy? You bet? Do I feel better not eating carbs? You betcha! Another day or two and maybe I'll get my purple sticks.

Congrats on your new program and seeing some results. Hitting the 190's is awesome!

Awesome. You could see up to 10 pounds as the glycogen clears your tissue. Too bad it's only partly fat you're losing right now, but you'll be eating it up after that. I got kind of 'foggy' on low carbs. (Check some of my earlier posts. See?)

I don't feel foggy at the moment and this the end of day 4. I think my glycogen should be near its end. I've been keeping to 20-24g/day and that's with workouts. No cravings, no moods, no brain death. Nothing bad at all. Just feel great. In fact, I feel clear headed without the carbs!

I hear you on the "good little follower" bit. Here's to your sticks turning purple. Congrats on getting under 200! Glad you're feeling well on your new plan, too.

I'm much clearer minded without the carbs. Different strokes for different folks. I believe it can take a few days before any indication will show up on those sticks. They can be a decent tool. at first After a couple of months on low carb your body gets into even better alignment with it and the types of ketones that it makes dont register on those sticks. I know of people who do the blood ketone testing because of its accuracy. But, for me, that seems to be a bit extreme. If you are feeling good and happy with the results, I don't think all of that testing would be necessary any way. Glad to hear things are going well for you! And although you wouldnt be able to tell by my weight graph I have read up on this quite a lot. So if you want to IM me with any questions you can. (not that I'm an expert, just offering)

Yes, congrats, my friend -- you're trying a new way and figuring out what works best for you! xoxox

Atkins doesn't recommend using the ketone strips, because they're not accurate. Great job on the loss!

One reason for the strips not turning purple is because of the prunes. They have a lot of sugar in them and that will mess with the results. My mom has a similar problem to yours. She uses a teaspoon of coconut oil. It helps her in record time. She says it works in about an hour or so. Just a thought. Are you doing the main Atkins or are you doing the fat fast. I love the fat fast.

I dropped prunes because of the sugar and carbs (terms which too many people use interchangeably). All sugars are carbs, but not all carbs are sugar.
