Jonathan Walsh's Journal, 13 April 2015

Starting weight = 476 pounds
Week #11 Closing = 407 pounds

Numbers Update:
Lost 69 pounds
Lost 14.50% of body weight
BMI down 8.0 points to 58.4

No soda for 77 days
No alcohol for 80 days
No cheating on diet for 77 days

As feared, I have encountered a stagnant week according to the Idiot Box. However, I choose to not let the Idiot Box evaluate my performance this past week. I moved the needle too much last weigh in & I have to accept the ebb & flow of this process at this weigh in. Alas, no pounds down, BUT no pounds up either. Additionally, I drank no demon elixir this week (Mountain Dew) & I ate pretty well; especially starting to pay attention to reducing carbohydrate intake. There are worse things to confront than having a the first flat week at 11 weeks into my climb.

I will remain resolute. I will be tenacious. I will let this week's zero motivate me to dig deeper. This is not Old Jon. It's onward & upward for New Jon.

I will take solace in a quote I read yesterday. "Strength doesn't come from what you can do. It comes from overcoming the things you once thought you couldn't."

I once thought this was not possible. I once thought I lived in a dark place & my demons would always be just that, my demons. New Jon knows different. New Jon knows this climb is not about what the Idiot Box said today. It's about what it is says every Monday & making it say less & less over the long haul. I'll keep climbing this mountain & one day, I'll throw that damn Idiot box off the peak.

Keep fighting the good fight my friends. We can do this. We are stronger than we think. Who's in?

Go you! Sometimes we owe the scale and sometimes the scale owes us. You have a great attitude!

You know the path - eat less move more and document what you are doing so you are accountable. EVERYONE on this site has struggled, some have delayed their climb (using your metaphor). The longer we delay the taller the mountain becomes. You can be different. You CAN do this. From Seinfeld - you are the "master of your domain".

Keep fighting my fellow warrior! I'm seriously impressed with your results and your fortitude - Wine is my demon elixir - yet to conquer that one myself. Have yourself a fabulous day!

You are doing AMAZING! Not every week can be stellar, but it will be steady over the long run if you stick to it like you are! :)

You go, New Jon! The idiot box doesn't give it up every week. I'm a scale watcher. Since I can't control my urge to jump on the scale frequently, I've witnessed the numbers bobbing around depending on sodium, if I'm bloated, had enough water, etc. Sometimes the scale is up a pound or two, others it's down a pound or two, but it all tends to equal out over time. As long as the trend is downward, we're good! Mountain Dew and Cherry Coke are addictions that were hard for me to kick. I'm coming up on one month without soda and have decided I will never drink soda again. It's evil.

Thanks for all the support gang! It's nice to hear from everybody out there on the side of this damn mountain. Knowing you're there in spirit, pays me physical dividends. I greatly appreciate it & your kind words are a boost to my spirit. Going to my first Body Pump class this evening with my wife. She is helping keep me motivated as well. I'm going to let my demons out & work their backside off!

Wow!!! You merry band of climbers of mountains really know how to lift a guy's spirit. I just got in from my first Body Pump class. I'd like to think I killed it, but i'm just hoping I can move in the morning. The bigger issue at hand is all of you. Hearing all these shout outs coming from the mountain is amazing. I, you, we can do this. I am going to enjoy this climb. I am going to enjoy it more climbing with you. We are linked. We are of one goal. We are of one mindset. We are fierce. We're climbing this mountain gang & nobody is being left behind. I got you & you got me. YOU GUYS ROCK!!!
