jmb3450's Journal, 30 October 2014

Yesterday was my wife's birthday, I was weak in the willpower department and had a piece of chocolate cake, then later a frosted cookie left over from the kiddies at church. And my wife made a superb meatloaf for dinner that I ate more of than I should have including some mashed potatoes. It shows on the scale this morning, up to 219.5 lbs. This afternoon my oldest daughter and grandsons are coming over - my wife is making their Halloween costumes and doing final adjustments before the town's Halloween parade this evening. I'll be picking up something for them to eat as a quick dinner on my way home, was thinking of pizza unless I can come up with a better idea...it needs to be something quick that they'll eat but I also don't want to be too tempting to myself. Maybe just need to limit the quantity of whatever I get so there's only enough and nothing extra. Anyway, my guess is I'll have no loss for this week, just hoping not to show a gain if possible. After steady losses for the past several weeks maybe some consolidation is good thing, but it is what it is. I do need to be careful because I know myself and if I'm not vigilant through tomorrow (Halloween) and the weekend I will allow myself to be lax and could easily put on a couple more pounds. Not really feeling discouraged, just being realistic and realizing I need to think and plan ahead, then stick to what I've planned.

On a big positive note, my wife had a wonderful birthday yesterday. I put a few sticky notes around the house before I left for work with mushy stuff on them for her to discover as the day went on, including one on a delicious looking pistachio muffin I picked up from a bakery (she said it tasted as good as it looked). She got enough flowers from her kids to fill 3 vases, I brought more flowers home, and then some more happy birthday wishes and little gifts from people at church. So it was a good day for her, which means it was a good day for me too. Dinner out at a restaurant of her choosing on Saturday, then we'll go to the theater to see the new Hunger Games movie.

Thursday, the weekend is closing in. Hope everyone has a great day.

Look at your chart! You are doing amazing! You have to have to enjoy yourself once and a while so this way of life becomes sustainable. Just get back to it and you will be fine. Sounds like you did great.

Aw Jim, no sense in being too tough on yourself. Sounds like it was a nice birthday - and you gotta eat cake, right? You have been doing great - and I constantly have to remind myself that I cannot possibly gain it back in a day. You may surprise yourself come weigh in. If not, you'll have had a great couple of days with your wife and grand kids.

Planning is an awesome gift we give ourselves. For me, the feeling of accomplishment I get from following a well thought out plan is so much better than the momentary pleasure of laxity. Even with my best plans there are little detours here and there, but when I weigh-in on Monday I am so glad I didn't just let loose over the weekend!

Man, you nailed it for your wife's birthday! You're a credit to manhood. Quantity, quantity, quantity. Don't deprive yourself; just set boundaries; that way you'll fell great on both fronts - you'll get to enjoy eating what you enjoy, and you'll have the satisfaction of knowing you were in control. How can you beat that?

How thoughtful of you on your wife's birthday. Sounds like she really had a great day and will continue through Halloween and the dinner on Saturday. I agree with Suzi161 and Br_E_Co, don't be so tough on yourself, your doing great and you have shown you can bounce back and keep control. Every once in awhile, we take one step back, so we can take two steps forward. Just went through the same thing the last couple of weeks and I know I'll show a good drop tomorrow. Enjoy the weekend and wish your wife a Happy Birthday.

Happy birthday to your wife! It sounds like a wonderful day, and a little celebrating with food does not huge weight gains make. It sounds like you're right back on top of it. Enjoy your grandchildren... I'm so jealous as I want grand babies so badly... just not yet with 2 unmarried sons!

You are doing excellent, I'm jealous! Don't beat yourself up too much, just do what you are doing...plan your meals and stick to them. It's what works...small stumbles along the way are just speed bumps to your destination!
