FullaBella's Journal, 12 April 2013

So lesson learned. Starting your day stating 'woe be unto anyone who tries to screw with me today' is just asking for trouble.

Sitting calmly at my desk now trying to breathe and reclaim 'happy'. I'll settle for that as the train for 'serene' has already left the station.

If you lost sleep last night longing to read the closing results of yesterday's 'fear factor' breakfast of liver & onions await no longer.

I finally felt hungry about 7pm. Not sure if it was sped up by being really cold for two hours as I sat outside watching the most boring junior high tennis match in the history of sports or if the liver finally ran it's course. So I had a couple more ounces of the liver followed by some cottage cheese & berries and went to bed feeling full. A little too full.

Liver for me is like spinach for Popeye. Got it.

I had it again for breakfast but this time half as much. I had to remember that around lunch time when I felt hungry and thought it'd lost it's magic.

Ahh, reduced quantity equates to reduced longevity. Got it.

It was weird seeing my RDI diary close in triple digits. While going 12 hours without eating may seem like a good thing I couldn't help but wonder how my blood sugar was handling all of that. Hence the reduced breakfast today so that I could have some lunch.

While we all confess to being our own little lab rats some of you run a much tighter ship than me. I'm more of a 'mad' scientist. The results have to be fairly huge to note the change experienced from a food.

So far my personal tests worthy of notation include chia seeds, liver and sauerkraut.

I didn't have any sauerkraut Wednesday although it's been a 2-3x a day intake for me ever since reading about the probiotic effect. I'd been wondering if 'it was all in my head' and considering the high sodium. Was it worth it?

One day without it had me up at 2am with leg cramps and in the nicest way I can write this.. uhm.. backing off on the sauerkraut kind of backed me up. So I think I'll now go think about a way to determine if it's just the vinegar (maybe apple cider vinegar) without all the sodium of pickles & sauerkraut. Until then I'll be stocking 'kraut like so call your brokers.

Older grandson's baseball game this afternoon. Sigh... I know I'm supposed to be proud of them unconditionally but I suck at being a Nana.

What do you expect when I'm asked 'what position does he play?' and my answer is 'dugout'.

I know this isn't food or weight related but I have to vent. What is the deal with the Iphones at baseball?!?! Did baseball evolve to the point the coach can't tug his ear or swipe three fingers across his chest to signal the batter to swing for the fences?

I nearly FELL OUT of my chair last week when the batter stepped away from the plate to check the phone in his back pocket. I was surprised I didn't get a 'foul' or 'foul mouth' called on me when I said, very loud, "Are you Freaking Kidding ME?" and looked to the coach hoping for the same reaction only to find it was the COACH texting him.

That's it. I'm done. I wish I had something humorous, inspirational or reflective to offer today. But considering the morning I had I'm doing well to get this recorded without a string of profanity. I'd best stop typing while I'm still using five letter words.

Hope you all have a very happy Friday and weekend. I'd offer to help but I'm not on duty ;-)

Bella

You may do this, but my Polish cuzzins in Detroit always rinse kraut well and then cook it down, low and slow. Cuts the sodium and acidity..until the family kielbasa is added!

I think I would have been shaking my head right along with you on the iPhone/batter debacle. I just saw a cartoon today that pictured a group of kids all holding some sort of electronic device and one kid was holding a stick, poking at some books on the ground. The caption read, "What the heck is that?" Funny and sad all at the same time!

Not sure I can jump on the liver bandwagon, but curious how you eat/what you eat with the sauerkraut & chia seeds (not together I assume?!?). TGIF & Happy Weekend to you too! xoxo

I love hearing about your days. Your adventures with liver and saurkraut fascinate me. I think you are an excellent nana to be out there at all. Good job!

There are times that I am grateful that I will never be expected to attend the sports events of grandchildren! I find it just as interesting as you do Bella!

my kids did marching band so I attended lots of football games. It wasn't too bad. Thank goodness it wasn't baseball. So boring!!! You are a pretty good Nana to go at all. I just started taking a spoonful of chia seeds in my oats. What do you think it does for you? Have a good weekend Bella.

Hope you found your 'happy' Bella. I did laugh out loud at some of your journal so you haven't lost your sense of humour. Thanks for visiting my journal. Your support means a ton. I don't notice much myself when I change things up. I am so not in touch with my body. Something to work on. Hope the apple cider vinegar does the trick but it may be the cabbage adding the fibre? Look forward to an answer. :). Being backed up is no fun. :)

@Cero - good idea. Will try that. Hope is to get off BP meds someday but w/o that diuretic effect I'd likely look like a sausage if I keep up this sodium intake. @Evelyn - one day I asked the gsons why they printed so badly; they said it was because the teachers no longer teach 'handwriting' in school. I know that's true now but geez, that stops at fifth grade and they are beyond that. Kids these days... scary the dumbing down they accept. @Angel - no problem; I didn't say it was the breakfast of champions just a pretty good filler for me. Craving for it passed but I still have some in the freezer if it comes back. Chia & Sauerkraut - not mixed, no. I'm not fully certain of the shelf life of the seeds once saturated. @Center - I just don't know. There are days when I feel like I've lived too long. This isn't even major leagues, it's junior varsity. Our local schools issued all of the kids 'IPADS' because it's lighter than carrying books. Yet all I ever saw was GAMES on my grandsons - guess who no longer has one..... @Kitkat - yep... wow @Sharon - thank you - I'm just sharing my day; am glad people enjoy my journals; weird experiements and all @Cathy - not me. I have the old fashioned bare bones phone plan so each text costs me 14 cents and believe me you'll hear about it if you text me, LOL @Colly: Ya know, I want to go, be the good Nana, be proud. The only thing it DOES do for me is solidify they (my two) aren't in a class by themselves... the whole LOT of them act like they're doing us a favor just to show UP! At the tennis match that afternoon the only balls swung at were the ones that nearly hit them.. I thought tennis players ran 'to' the ball? @Teri - you know, I could actually FOLLOW the baseball compared to the Tennis and at their level it was fun .. more like basketball scores LOL. I didn't make it to the Fri Nite game due to too much frustration (no one could confirm if he was playing or not due to his grades) so I vegged out. I find the chia seeds to be very filling when added to oats or cottage cheese. They are just fun to watch when I put them in the water. @Isabel - you're right - cabbage. Duh me. It must be the vinegar that helps stop the leg cramps so that's why I shouldn't monkey around w/it too much ... I guess I'll call Rationale Woman in to rule that as I never season anything I eat the sodium I'm getting there can't be that bad.. right (please don't run my food diary .. I don't want to know that number anymore than my credit score!) Denial.... Thanks again everyone.
