HCB's Journal, 22 August 2012

I feel slightly challenged today with maintaining a routine since my friends have arrived for their two week visit and our trip to Wyoming and Yellowstone.

I missed my exercise this morning - stayed up until 4am and needed to be up before 10am; not my best choice to lose so much sleep! But, I am eating exactly what is on my plan while still at home. It is getting "On the Road" that will be more challenging for me.

But, my motivation and dedication to this lifestyle is solid and secure in my mind and body. I will weigh-in before I leave, and feel successful if I can maintain while gone. That will be a great victory.

On the positive side, my friend and her spouse each have lost over 20 pounds - so they are on board with my attitude; however, they say "on vacation" includes a diet break. Not so much for me...I do not want to let loose completely and have a large gain which will be hard to again lose.

And, a couple days ago, ALL of my Buddies made some fabulous suggestions which I will take to heart and implement. I plan to bring my DVDs and exercise - and if that struggles to happen, I will get up every morning and do a "nature" walk to get the old body moving and keep the metabolism stoked. I also will focus on lean proteins, fruits and veggies.

Today I am grateful for:

- This is my last day of work until September 5th
- My FS Buddies who support and encourage me to continue
- "Butt-kicking" myself to a smaller size today
- My DH - who is my greatest "cheerleader"
- My Bengal cat companions named Bodhi and Ravi
- My work - which has meaning and worth to other human beings
- My connection to the Mother Earth and its entire splendor
- My physical health

WOW the fact that they are on board with the weight loss has got tobe a great surprise! Hopefully they will follow your lead and realize that a treat here and there if good but not to fall off completely and wreck havoc on all your process. ENJOY vacation :-)

I know first hand how hard it can be trying to stay "on plan" during vacations, celebrations, etc. Best of luck. BTW - Did you ever get your bathrooms cleaned?

I know I'm at 20 lbs. mark today and I wouldn't want anything to mess this up! Hope they will feel the same!

I wish I could go with you! It sounds like so much fun. I hope you have a great time and if you accomplish even half of your goals for this trip, I call that a win.

@ BuffyBear - LOL, I went behind him and cleaned again, BUT, the next day he chose to clean in the kitchen and helped with vacuuming! SO I think he knew he "done me wrong" and was trying to make-up for it. Of course, I positively reinforced him and thanked him over and over with the hope he will do more of it! My friends loved our house and even commented how organized it looked.

There is so much more to focus on while on vacation than just the food and drinks. You will be surrounded by nature's beauty while enjoying the company of good friends. Focus on the non-food things and you should do fine :)

I'm so excited for you! I almost feel as if I'm going, too! Have a wonderful time! You're gonna do great, and how exciting that your friends have also lost weight...it should at least give them pause.

Have a great time! I'm up a pound or two but don't regret a minute of my awesome vacation with little man. And, I feel much more ready to tackle the coming weeks with a more strict diet and exercise routine!

Hey you sound great HCB! I say do whatever feels best to you - if you intend to stay on plan, then by all means. If you do take a break and indulge, not the end of the world. Try to keep your indulgences small - a meal here and there. It gets out of hand if it goes on for more than one day. You'll be fine and you'll have a great time. And I'm here to tell you - in May I braved a 12 hour drive through Western Kansas and Eastern Colorado to visit my dad, and believe me, there is NOTHING. But even there they do have Subway, and they do have salads at McDonald's and Wendy's. If I can find that kind of food in the styx, you can too as you drive through your country.

You are going to have a great vacation! That's great that your friend's have lost weight. Maybe you will inspire them while you are on vacation and they won't "take a break" as they say!

Good luck with your trip.. I am sure you will squeeze that exercise in whenever you can. Perhaps your friends would like to join you on that nature walk.. it's always a good way to start the day! Plus I imagine you will see many beautiful things too. Mother nature at her finest awaits you... Have a safe, healthy and happy journey :)
