redgirl1974's Journal, 20 February 2016

ive been on this site since 2010 and today I want to post about something that Ive never seen talked about here at all.. the side boob.. this is for men as much as women. Ive googled 10000000000x " exercises for side boob" and Im sure Ive asked just as many people and the only bs answer I get is you can only get rid of it with cardio.. Im mean, Im sorry, Ive walked/jogged to china and back this last year and a half and I can attest, that sh!t ain't going no where with cardio.. Im developing a real nice physic and everywhere is really tightening up and then I lift my arms and there it is, im naming it blobby for pete's sake.. I mean I have to lean forward and push it up/in with my real boob in my bra.. jeez.. OK this maybe too much TMI for some and Im sincerely sorry about that, but I posted about my overhang belly "apron" once and my gas issues and no complained so what the hey.. and I just want everyone's insight.. Is the side boob the same like the belly apron? I was fat, Im still fat but I lost a lot of weight and that skin has no where to go? And if so, I get that.. I got a great firming cream and I can def exercise that area "extra" like I do my lower abs,. I just want to know Im not a hamster in a wheel here with the side boob issue..

Redgirl1974 - Love this post, but I think your SOL if you hope for a spot exercise to get rid of that. Exercising your lower abs is one thing - there is muscle there that you can build/tighten which then can help to hide what fat is in the area. But that boob area isn't muscle. And fat does not respond to spot exercise. Obviously I haven't seen your boobs (real or extra LOL ) so I can't say if its all skin and your creams may work or not. If there is any fat left, burn it off and whats left will be skin. PS: With your sense of humor - an extra boob is nothing to worry about :) Haha

Thank you for posting. I, too, have issues with boobs (well, sort of) ... it's man boobs. No matter how much I run, I just can't seem to lose that last little bit that taunts me in the mirror every morning. All I can assume is that I have to work out my chest and fill it in with a bunch of muscle so the fat is less noticeable? Not sure you, as a woman, want to build muscle in your chest. Too much muscle and women look gross. Although, speaking from a man's perspective, I'm with Warrenwinter.

Also, might want to consider re-naming this predicament. I googled "sideboob" (you know, for research), and if this is your problem, I'd suggest you change your definition of a problem. :) Maybe call it bonus boob?

Don't mean to be mean but, if you are referring to the rolls of fat that many people in society have today, I'm afraid that whoever told you that cardio is the best way to get rid of it, they were correct. That said, I have two things to say. #1. Don't just do cardio, try HIIT when you do cardio. This will take your work out session to a whole different level. Start out SLOW and work your way up but, trust me, when you add HIIT to your routine, you will start seeing results. If you already do this, take it up a notch. #2. EAT CLEAN! After learning about all the stuff we put into our bodies, even when we are more conscious about it, in general, most people don't eat clean enough. Again, this will take your body to a different level of fat burning and health. Hope that helps and remember, ONE STEP AT A TIME. It took us all several decades to gain the fat that we have. It will take a while to burn it back off as well.

So.... here's the thing. When you lose tissue or fat in the breast area the skin takes FOREVER to recover and the older you are the worse it is.( I breast fed six kids!) But if you wear a properly fitting support garment and make sure the supporting muscles can hold everything where it belongs instead of where it wants to go, eventually it will settle back to where it belongs. Sorry but it can take a very long time though. As for you the dreaded Moob the guys get, I am not sure but I assume its the same principal.

I remember an episode on "Seinfeld" where a bra for men with moobs was created - it was called the "bro." Seems like where fat goes is genetically determined. I'm wondering if there still is fat under that skin area to which you're referring. I've seen ads here for something called "cool sculpting," a non-invasive procedure that breaks up fat under skin areas. I think it is relatively inexpensive, but not sure what is actually going on when it's performed. I also believe your body may continue to change shape for quite awhile even after you reach your goal weight, so maybe this area will get with the program and reduce on its own over time.

I hate 'em too. Mine seem to have gotten better but as Nicholaix points out it's taken a really long time while wearing expensive minimizing bras to make that area smooth again, but it's still a bit there. You might look into what Trakin64 suggests as a quicker fix.

Okay, so... Amorgan67 is right. There is no such thing as spot reducing. Sometimes it seems we can do that by getting the muscle worked so it may move the flesh slightly, but there is no spot reducing. The fact is, fat is a fluid. That is to say, it flows. That's not to say it's soft, but what I've noticed while using calipers is that the amount of fat in certain areas will rise and fall, though the over all 3 point measurement will indicate a loss of fat. The fat will move to where the body feels it is most necessary, which is why internal fat is always last to go, and if it goes, you're dead. Yep. Anyway. A fat cell is a storage tank. The bad news is you can never lose a fat cell (short of lypo, which treats the symptom - fat storage - rather than the cause - habits of excess). So how do people who have had lypo gain back the weight? The fat cells don't care how big they get, so you just have fewer, but larger fat cells. Our goal is not to treat the symptom (by losing weight) but treat the cause, the habits of excess. Losing weight if we don't deal with the habits of excess means we will go back right where we were. (Rabbit trail ends.) There is good news though and that is that our number of fat cells has pretty much maxed out when we become adults (which means I may still be making new fat cells at 57). How is that good news? Well, if you focus, train, and get your eating in order your body can... ready?... pretty much get back to the condition it was in when you were in your 20s. Yes, you're older, but the fat cells can be reduced to a 20s age size and if you are lifting, (cardio will not redefine muscle shape) you can likely look BETTER than you did in your 20s. My experience is that fat comes off last in the area known as 'love handles' abdomen, and yes, under the armpit area. It sucks but, in general, we have to get leaner to lose in those areas.

I have a little of the same problem, what's the name of the cream you have and where did you get it? By the way you look so good and have worked so hard try to feel good and as the guys say they just like boobs period.

Not really sure what you are calling the side boob, but I have always had a problem with the upper arm. which is now the WINGS> I have a friend who loss about 200 lbs. in her 40"s, and her arms are firm. I lost 85 pounds in my late 20's exercised everyday. Everything firmed up except my arms. so what may work for one does not always work for the other. I can hide everything else, but would just love to be able to wear a sleeveless dress or top in public without feeling insecure. You know what I mean.

Is a side boob the blob that sort of sits between the boob and the armpit? LOL...I am sure I have it, but have seen it change as I reduce overall bodyfat...Northern is correct, I believe.
