Too much calories
The only other I tried was fitnesspal - they based it there off how many lbs I wanted to ideally lose a week, which I set as 2, so they cut me off at 1200. Here at Fatsecret it's 1300 lbs, but they state to lose 1 lb a week. Your daily is a huge difference compared to my 100. Did you enter different information here, such as activity level or age difference?

Are smaller goals beter?
I think it's a good idea to put them into smaller goals. When I set mine up it was with a mental goal so I didn't, but I'm mainly looking at lbs per month lost to help. We'll see, crossing fingers for all of us.

DIABETIC OR PREDIAVETIC
I do not have diabetes or pre (almost, but not quite) --- but yes you can set it with sugar intake and carbs in mind in your settings and it will track that daily when you enter your food.

what is your goal weight, 5'3 and 5'4 ladies?
I'm 5'3 and would like to be around 135. I think in the 120's wouldn't look good on me since I am not small boned and have a medium frame.

Confusion on Soda
Lucky Roja wrote:
It's an evolutionary reality that your body gets alarmed when there is a big, sustained drop in calories. If you are sedentary, your metabolism slows down to preserve energy. Two things might help - one is getting more exercise. I'm older and not a gym rat, so my exercise is simply walking. It took time to get up from a miserable half hour to a much less miserable hour-and-a-half a couple times a week, but it makes a huge difference in my weight loss. The other is what is called zig-zag dieting. Low cals several days in a row and then a more weight maintaining level for a day so your body calorie deficit alarm isn't going off. I'm not saying drink soda on the zag day, but give yourself a little slack to eat a sandwich or a fruit cup.

Thanks, I think this must be what happened. I didn't lose any weight the first two weeks cutting out soda completely (and I drank quite a bit of it before) or the junk food. I was eating 1200-1300 calories a day of just healthy stuff. Until I started adding in exercise the third week, I did not seem to lose any weight beyond one pound, so I must have needed that to kickstart it. Since dropping the 2 liter of soda a day, that was an 800 calorie drop, and then eating healthy instead of what I was usually eating, it was a calorie difference of at least 1500 a day. The only explanation I can conclude with changing to 1200 versus almost 3000 calories and no weight loss is what you are saying with the body being in a freak out mode at first.
