chrisw77's Journal, 06 December 2018

This still feels weird. I started this adventure in July to gain muscle. Went from 133 or so to 155 in 3 months. Did a little cut for a month and starting a new workout routine.

Met with a trainer yesterday at his garage gym and he gave me a fitness test: planks (never tried them) - 2 minutes. One-arm planks - 2 sets of 1 minute each arm. 64 pushups nonstop... that shocked me! It's been so long since I'd done them and maxed out at 45!

He had me do a workout I'd have never thought of... I usually do ~5 sets of 15 on most exercises with a light weight. He had me do sets of 10 of DB bench, then straight into 1-arm rows (supersets) with moderate weight. 30 second break, then 2 more sets of these. The intensity kicked my heart into seriously high gear.

2 minutes break and then supersets of flyes and pullovers with no rests again. After these slow and intentional eccentric exercises, he had me do battle ropes. Never tried these either, so 3 minutes of :20 on :10 breaks - I was dying at the end!

20 minute workout, but so much more intense than usual (and I'm usually beat from my prior workouts)! I like this style a lot. Tweaked my nutrition, so I'll be 60% into carbs on a 10% caloric deficit and...

He did calipers, his super high-tech scale AND some handheld thing that looks like a metal Xbox controller.

Calipers: 11.2%. Scale 10.2%. Handheld thingy:  11.7%.

I'm stronger and leaner than I'd previously thought! 😁 I actually weigh less, but I'm bigger! Muscles are still a new phenomenon to me...

So no more "I wanna be 165#". It's ALL about looks and measurements from here on out. The scale is just for entertainment purposes only lol.
