I have been using Fatsecret for about six years. I had lost around 20 pounds from my heaviest weight before I joined Fatsecret. The last 15 pounds was a struggle and that is when I decided I needed help and joined everyone here on Fatsecret. I used to use this site just to track my weight but never used the tools available here to track my food intake. When I started taking advantage of the tools here and with the encouragement from supportive Buddies, things changed.

My profile picture is showing my potbelly that motivated me to do better. It was taken about the time I discovered Fatsecret. I can only imagine what I looked like 20 pounds before that. The last ten pounds have been the hardest. My true goal is 155 pounds but I have set my Fatsecret goal one pound lower than that. I consider myself to be in "Maintenance Mode" and that one pound helps me with my current goal of staying around 155 pounds. I keep using Fatsecret to help maintain my goal weight because it works for me. I don't know why anyone would stop using a tool that helped them reach their goal.

This is an amazing website and fantastic community. I recommend it to any friend who expresses an interest in losing weight and eating healthy. Everyone has to find a way of eating that works for them. I don't follow fads, look for quick fixes or judge what others eat or don't eat. I prefer what works well for me and it is a balanced sustainable diet. I don't condemn other folk methods of dieting but I have noticed that many people quickly rebound from quick fix diets and I don't want any parts of that. I'm not a perfect dieter and hold myself accountable. I use a Fitbit to track activity and exercise. I think Fatscret and Fitbit work well together and compliment each other. I wish everyone well in their efforts to improve their health. That's why I'm in it...

This site has done wonders for me. I was at a plateau when I joined. Counting calories made the difference for me. I also use an activity tracker for rest and activity assessment. The community here is a big part of my journey. You will interact with people where you used to be, where you are right now and where you want to go in your own personal journey. Daily Calorie Target Seems High
I elected to set my own calorie goal based off the data I collected from Fatsecret and the results I obtained. I did 1600 calories a day to loose weight. Once I reached my goal, I was able to increase my intake to 1800 calories a day. Everybody is different. Please don't feel locked in by anyone's suggested caloric intake...

Truthfully, I have never had a very strict plan concerning carbs or fiber. I do try to avoid starchy foods in general. But, I love veggies and fruits and try to include them in most meals. I have never made cutting carbs a priority. I do track Net. Carbs and not total carbs. I do try focus more on my protein intake.

I started this thread because I was interested in what others thought about fiber. I wasn't tracking my fiber intake when I started this thread. Later, someone pointed out that I may not be eating enough fiber. Once I started tracking fiber, I found out that most days I consume close to the recommended amount. I haven't had any problems with constipation or flatulence so carbs and fiber have little influence on my food decisions...

Someone once pointed out that I was not eating enough fiber. I was not tracking my fiber intake at that time and didn't have a clue as to how much fiber I was consuming. I have always considered fiber important and ate plenty of veggies and fruits. Curious, I started tracking my fiber intake here on Fatsecret. I found that most days I was doing pretty good but there was an opportunity to be more consistent. I think that sufficient fiber intake is important to good digestive health... Wink

Subsitutes for Soda Pop and other Sugary Beverges?
Water is my first line of defense. I sometimes flavor my water with a squeeze of lemon, lime or splash of fruit juice. When I miss the fizz of sodas, I sometimes drink carbonated water with the option of adding some sort of flavor...
