i am a high school senior from ft worth, tx who has struggled with my weight for the past 4 years...i've never been obese, but i've always had a few extra pounds which made me feel out of place in a bathing suit or in the dressing room. i started south beach in may 2007, and got down to 165 (from 180) and have bounced around 165-175 since then. i'm ready to lose everything i want to, and stay there!

i play a lot of basketball, so that's a great calorie burner, but late nate snacks KILL me! i'll do great all day, but around 10 or so at night, while i'm finishing up my homework, i'll start snacking on nuts or peanut butter and just keep going...sometimes i'll even do the same thing with ice cream. once i can control that late nite eating, i'll know i've got this thing beat! i do just fine on phase 1 of south beach, but the transition to 2 and 3 has always been a little difficult because i love fruit so much. this time though, i know i'm going to do it!

i also love dancing (salsa!), yoga, and cooking...new recipes are so fun!

today i told myself that my eyes were looking very large and beautiful, instead of thinking about the tiny little extra tub around my tummy..(okay, i still thought about it, but it doesn't count because i countered it with the positive!) keep up the great work everyone, and remember: Life is GOOD, stay positive! My stomach looks nice and flat today was my positive comment to myself this morning..it's a really bad habit that i've gotten into with this negative energy, because it's not as much motivating as it is hurting my self-image!

also, hour and a half at the gym last night Smile yay! i restarted phase 1 on monday to get myself back in the game, so i'm a little tired..but i'll get through it!

ok, so as long as i am on track i usually keep pretty healthy habits; i always exercise, cokes aren't really a problem, and i love my veggies. so the one UNhealthy habit i have is my self-deprecating comments. even when i'm doing really well and feeling thin, i'll always find the problem areas rather than focusing on my success. right now it's especially bad because i've slipped off track a tiny bit, so everytime i look in a mirror there's that little voice in the back of my head..."your thighs look huge"..."ugh, look at that tummy fat".

SO. my challenge to myself this week is to combat every negative comment with a positive one, to celebrate my successes instead of focusing on how far i have to go!

& here is my first positive: "You have worked SO hard, and those jeans look GREAT on you!"

one more little thing..i just started a little post on the "Tricks of the Trade" forum called "101 reasons to lose weight." it's like a motivational list that anyone can add to - all the things that are better about our lives now that we're pushing for that goal! if you have any (which i'm sure we all do) add away!
