i am 38yrs old and found my metabolism slowing down...yikes!!! mom of 4 beautiful kids (14,11,8,6) and work as a full time night icu rn (7p-7a 3xwk). did ww for many years, but didn't like their new points system so went to atkins instead...looking to lose only a few pounds...focused more on healthy living.

update: 6/2012
goal reached....and wearing a bikini for the first time in 13 yrs! i don't even care about the little bit of jiggle after 4 kids! i am just so happy with the way i feel and the way i look. it is a constant challenge and my weight does go up and down by 4-5 lbs...but i keep it in check! i have to be accountable for what goes from my hands into my mouth...so far i am still going strong!

update: 8/13
i got seriously ill with severe colitis and septic shock in march and had to go on a low residual diet for 2 months....which needless to say, was all simple carbs, no fiber, no raw veggies....hello 10 lb weight gain. finally able to tolerate all kinds of food again, so back on track! 10 lbs to go .....

update: 2/15
I have been at goal and on maintenance for almost 2 yrs!! Ended up getting a bad pneumonia in December (6 day hospitalization), followed by kidney stones and lithotripsy (2 days, then another 3 days in hospital) in January...so bedrest + carbs= weight gain....I feel yucky, so it is time for me to feel better again...and Atkins is the only way to do it...

meal delivery question?
I work nights and have HelloFresh delivered to my home. My kids (20 and 14) enjoy making the meals 3x week when I work. Are there any "atkins friendlier" meal delivery plans I can use, in place of HelloFresh. All their meals feature a high carb.....like potatoes, pasta or rice. I would love to find a home meal delivery plan that has more low carb options.

what i eat
From above.....Good Advice!!! And take a look at my food entries... I am really good at keeping track of my food, except for the times that i am on maintenance (or sick and in the hospital, which tends to be more often than I like)...those are the times i don't track because i don't feel i need to. the scale tells me how i am doing, and to be honest, so do i! but you need to eat more and be more creative with your food choices or you will never last on atkins...be careful with the meal replacement bars too...they are good in a pinch but try not to make a habit out of them... try eating 2 eggs and add a slice of bacon, ham, or sausage to breakfast. don't skimp at lunch, add hummus or avocado...make your own chicken salad or egg salad to eat with a green salad (and use kens salad dressing or newmans own dressings, they have very little added sugar). For dinner eat a few more ounces of meat and try a new veggie out.I fell in love with Kohlrabi! I had to ask the guy at the farmers market "what is it and what do i do to it to eat it?" the idea isn't to starve yourself...i rarely feel "hungry". and there are some really fun and interesting recipes out there...enjoy the journey, it takes times, but do it the right way and it will be a breeze!

martha: i agree with with everyone...for me, except for when i am ill, i follow atkins because i have NEVER felt so AWESOME, except when i am on it!!! my husband does the yo-yo game and has never been able to lose much weight and/or keep it off. 2 lbs a week is terrific! keep up the good work. i love flax meal, and buy flax seed whole. i like the golden flax seed the best. i have a small coffee grinder and grind my own. keep the flax in the fridge in as "air-tight" of a container as possible. i also add chia seed to shakes and breads that i make. MIMs or "muffins in a minute" are terrific, and i eat them a few times a week; sliced with butter and sugar free syrup like french toast. don't forget to eat protein!! that is the only wisdom i want to emphasize! it is easy to feel forget. also, watch what foods trigger cravings...once i have carbs, they are hard to put down....especially starches!

Party this weekend? What to drink?
i do white wine spritzers....fill a large wine glass with ice, 4 oz white wine and 4 oz of any flavored calorie free seltzer ( i like pomegrante sangria or georgia peach), then i use 1/8 wedge of lime. it is big enough that i don't drink it very fast, and i also don't feel like i am missing out on the party! 3.5 ounces of white wine is only 1 carb!!!
