i am 38yrs old and found my metabolism slowing down...yikes!!! mom of 4 beautiful kids (14,11,8,6) and work as a full time night icu rn (7p-7a 3xwk). did ww for many years, but didn't like their new points system so went to atkins instead...looking to lose only a few pounds...focused more on healthy living.

update: 6/2012
goal reached....and wearing a bikini for the first time in 13 yrs! i don't even care about the little bit of jiggle after 4 kids! i am just so happy with the way i feel and the way i look. it is a constant challenge and my weight does go up and down by 4-5 lbs...but i keep it in check! i have to be accountable for what goes from my hands into my far i am still going strong!

update: 8/13
i got seriously ill with severe colitis and septic shock in march and had to go on a low residual diet for 2 months....which needless to say, was all simple carbs, no fiber, no raw veggies....hello 10 lb weight gain. finally able to tolerate all kinds of food again, so back on track! 10 lbs to go .....

Party this weekend? What to drink?
i do white wine spritzers....fill a large wine glass with ice, 4 oz white wine and 4 oz of any flavored calorie free seltzer ( i like pomegrante sangria or georgia peach), then i use 1/8 wedge of lime. it is big enough that i don't drink it very fast, and i also don't feel like i am missing out on the party! 3.5 ounces of white wine is only 1 carb!!!

why do people say that atkins is unhealty?!?!
i tell people i am on a low carb diet....they seem to be more receptive to that description of my diet plan, rather that getting the "ear full" i was getting when i would tell people i was on atkins. i have since discovered that i am also gluten wonder i felt soooo good on induction!! i am an ICU RN and feel good at goal weight now! but best of all...i know i am healthy! that is a hard thing to do when you work full time night shift in a high stress job with loads of vending machine food as your only food source! now i bring food with me and plan ahead! keep plugging away and you all will reach your goals too. people at work always ask me, "when are you coming off your diet?"....they are always surprised when i tell them that i made a lifestyle change and never, ever, ever plan on going back to the way i treated my body before!

for me, some days are easier than others. i found the restrictions during induction almost comforting....i felt in control. i am now in OWL and SCARED to death about adding more carbs and climbing the rungs up that OWL ladder! i do enjoy a small glass of wine about 2-3xwk with dinner, and that hasn't stopped my wgt loss. my goal initially was 155lbs, but i am only a few lbs away from that and i don't feel ready to stop losing yet. i go by my size more than my wgt. i would like to get back into a size 10 comfortably again. i think i will be able to do that at between 155-150lb. i am tall (5'Cool, so anything below 150 i look gaunt (and my hubby doesn't like it) LOL! i don't even go down the middle aisles of the super market anymore, unless absolutely necessary. i tend to stick to the outside of the market. this way of life is definitely more expensive at the grocery store...but i look at it as a good investment to my health. hubby has lost 13 lbs as well on plan! i am so proud of his efforts. feel free to stay in touch. just sent you a buddy request.

i ordered low carb tortilla's and they were terrific. i was surprised how quickly my order from came! super happy with them so far
