I'm on Low Carb 30 carbs and below. Does anyone know anything about flax mill and if it can be used for this diet. I got a recipe for bread off of a keto site. The bread is amazing and has more fiber than carbs. do you think flax mill would keep you from losing on Atkins. Or keto diet? only losing 2lbs a week. On low carb.Sad

I can't help you on the flax question, but two pounds a week, especially for a woman, isn't all that bad. If you are just dieting and haven't added exercise, then two pounds is great. Most doctors recommend 1-2 pounds of loss per week, so you would be right on track with that. How long have you been on this plan? Are you doing Atkins? If you are just getting started, 30 carbs would be a lot on Atkins, so I assume you've been at it a while. If so, a steady two pounds a week is okay. I've normally lost faster at first on Atkins, then taper off as I add carbs. I tend to yoyo with Atkins because it is so restrictive, I fall off the wagon. I'm trying to just control portions and eliminate sugar and processed carbs as much as possible. I lost 4 pounds the first week doing that, but being male helps a bit too. Keep your chin up. You are losing, not gaining. That is a HUGE success!

If you are following the steps in Atkins and doing the phases properly you shouldn't be yo yoing. Only if you added in a carb that your body really reacted to.

I know that mine is grains, rices and pasta's Very rarely eat them because they cause me to bloat. So it's a learning curve.

I do agree that 2 lbs of steady weight loss a week is great, It gives your skin time to contract and you will have a far better chance of keeping it off in the long run as opposed to a quick heavy weight loss.

this recipe says it's good for induction so hopefully yours is too, but if you note that the weight loss isn't happening then eliminate for a week and see what happens. http://recipes.sparkpeople.com/recipe-detail.asp?recipe=1397771

I was not sure how to reply to this I've been on low carb two weeks. I'm 69 so things move slower.Very Happy This week I'm going to really try to stay below 20 carbs aday.Normal om low carb.I would drop like 8-to 10lbs first week. And I drink @ least 80 oz of water everyday!

Martha, do not go below 20 net gm of carbs a day! this is counterproductive, You need those carbs, 15 from good green veggies and 5 from cheeses or creams.

I can't see what you are eating but my guess is that you are trying to eat less and below your RDI and that is the problem.

Yes our metabolism and hormones change in the later years. I eat about 1000 cals a day and don't listen to the 'never eat under 1200 group... I maintain my weight. The initial weight loss is usually water weight then it slows down ... 2 lbs a week is a good steady healthy loss. I watch my sodium and usually reach 1200mgs a day with only real natural foods and I find if I add in that pushes the sodium up, I actually gain weight, water weight, but the # goes up.
Its a learning curve for each individual person.

martha: i agree with with everyone...for me, except for when i am ill, i follow atkins because i have NEVER felt so AWESOME, except when i am on it!!! my husband does the yo-yo game and has never been able to lose much weight and/or keep it off. 2 lbs a week is terrific! keep up the good work. i love flax meal, and buy flax seed whole. i like the golden flax seed the best. i have a small coffee grinder and grind my own. keep the flax in the fridge in as "air-tight" of a container as possible. i also add chia seed to shakes and breads that i make. MIMs or "muffins in a minute" are terrific, and i eat them a few times a week; sliced with butter and sugar free syrup like french toast. don't forget to eat protein!! that is the only wisdom i want to emphasize! it is easy to feel forget. also, watch what foods trigger cravings...once i have carbs, they are hard to put down....especially starches!
