In a nutshell: I was a skinny kid, and never dreamed that I would ever be fighting the battle of the bulge. I don't eat fruit, so my parents allowed me to eat as much as I wanted, of what I would eat; so I did. For a while, it was a non issue, and I frequently ate seconds, and on holidays, thirds, with no adverse affect. Relatives often joked that I must have a hollow leg, to eat so much, and still be skinny. The long and the short of it is, it started to catch up to me in my mid twenties; and after varying degrees of success, with low calorie diets, fasting a couple of days a week, and brief forays into low carb, but not sticking with it; I found myself weighing 417 pounds, at the age of 42. At that time, I decided to get serious about doing Atkins again, got enrolled in Karate classes, for regular workouts, and over the course of a year, lost 100 pounds. Since then, I've lost and gained back some of the weight, and I'm now on a quest to lose the excess weight once and for all. It's not over until I win!!! Low Carb or Bust. I subsequently earned my Blackbelt in 2006.

Fiber?
If you are following a Low Carb way of eating, then it's important to know how many grams of fiber, is in the foods you eat, to subtract them and know how many net carbs you are consuming. This is important depending on the level, or stage, at which you happen to be at.

Meal Names
That's a great way to do it! I, generally, only have 3 meals a day, and record them as such, and, like you, everything else is recorded as a snack. Smile

Total Carbs vs. Net Carbs
The long and the short of it is this. The Atkins Lifestyle is about net carbs, but everyone is different. Initially you have to keep your net carbs at or below 20 net carbs; but that's only for the first two weeks of Induction; after which you slowly, and I do mean slowly start adding, healthy, carbs back into your daily eating, as you move through the phases, to lose the weight. Most of your time, while losing weight will be at the OWL level. Once again, everyone is different, but your net carbs will vary between 20 net carbs, and as much as 40 net carbs, on a bad day; sometimes it will be much less. As long as you are losing weight, and you are eating the right kinds of low carb foods, then your total carbs may reach as high as 60 or more, depending on how much fiber is in your food; which when subtracted out, keeps your net carbs at a level enabling you to continue to lose weight. Once you get into the Pre-Maintenance, and Maintenance levels of Atkins, then your total carbs, and net carbs will go up to a level, specific to you, to keep your weight in check. I'm not there yet, and it's a constant balancing act, all along the way, but it's not boring either. I hope this helps. Be blessed in your efforts, and have a great day. Smile
